Can kidney yin deficiency be treated with moxibustion?

People with kidney yin deficiency often suffer from insomnia and constipation. Patients with yin deficiency do not have cold hands and feet as everyone experiences, but instead have hot hands and soles. Kidney yin deficiency may also cause irritability and dry mouth, hands and tongue. Only patients with yang deficiency will have cold hands and feet. These physical conditions can be improved through moxibustion. This article introduces the signs of deficiency syndrome. Let’s take a look if you are interested.

The characteristics of Yin deficiency are as follows:

Yin deficiency is mostly caused by fever or miscellaneous diseases that damage the Yin fluid over a long period of time, or by excessive emotions, excessive sexual intercourse, excessive intake of warm and dry foods, etc., which cause the Yin fluid to be consumed secretly and lead to Yin fluid deficiency, resulting in the body losing moisturizing and nourishing substances. At the same time, because Yin cannot control Yang, the Yang heat is relatively strong and causes internal heat, so it manifests as a series of symptoms of false heat, dryness and dryness, and false fire, restlessness and anxiety.

Yin deficiency may coexist for a long time with symptoms such as Qi deficiency, blood deficiency, Yang deficiency, Yang hyperactivity, essence deficiency, fluid deficiency and dryness, or they may be causally related to each other, manifesting as symptoms of Yin deficiency such as Qi and Yin deficiency, Yin-blood deficiency, Yin-Yang deficiency, Yin-Yang hyperactivity, Yin-essence deficiency, Yin-fluid deficiency, and Yin deficiency and internal dryness, which may then develop into pathological changes such as Yin loss and wind movement.

Yin deficiency syndrome can be seen in various organs, and its etiology and pathogenesis are slightly different:

1. Lung Yin Deficiency

It is a symptom of insufficient lung yin and endogenous deficiency heat. It is mostly caused by long-term cough damaging the yin, tuberculosis attacking the lungs, or damage to the yin and fluid in the late stage of fever. The lungs are responsible for clearing and are gentle and moist in nature. When the lung yin is insufficient, internal heat is generated, the lungs are steamed by heat, and the upward movement of qi causes coughing. The body fluid is burned by heat, and the refined liquid becomes phlegm, which is small in quantity and sticky in texture. Deficiency of lung yin cannot moisten the throat, resulting in dry throat and mouth, and cannot nourish the muscles, resulting in weight loss. Internal heat causes hot flashes in the afternoon and fever in the five hearts; heat disturbing the Ying Yin causes night sweats; false heat ascends and causes red cheekbones; the lung meridians are burned, and blood overflows from the meridians, causing blood in the sputum; the throat loses its moisture and is steamed by the false fire, resulting in hoarseness. A red tongue with little fluid and a weak pulse are both signs of yin deficiency and internal heat.

2. Heart Yin Deficiency Syndrome

Heart Yin deficiency refers to the clinical symptoms manifested by the deficiency of Heart Yin, which is unable to nourish the heart organ, resulting in the decline of the heart's functions of governing blood vessels, spirit, etc. The main causes of its formation are: long-term illness that consumes yin blood, or excessive blood loss, or insufficient yin blood production, or emotional frustration, internal stagnation of qi and fire, and secret consumption of yin blood, leading to insufficient yin blood throughout the body and deficiency of heart yin.

3. Stomach Yin Deficiency

It refers to the symptoms manifested by insufficient stomach yin. It is mostly caused by prolonged stomach disease, or failure to restore yin fluid in the late stage of fever, or a habit of eating spicy food, or emotional frustration, which causes qi stagnation and fire to deplete stomach yin.

4. Spleen Yin Deficiency

It is a symptom manifested by insufficient spleen yin fluid, failure to nourish, and inability to transport and transform. It is mostly caused by the loss of yin fluid after an exogenous febrile disease, or congenital yin deficiency, or emotional frustration, liver depression turning into fire, burning yin fluid, or excessive consumption of spicy food, or mistakenly taking spicy and warm medicines.

5. Liver Yin Deficiency

It refers to the deficiency of yin fluid, loss of liver moisture, inability of yin to control yang, internal disturbance of deficiency heat, and deficiency heat syndrome with dizziness, dry eyes, side pain, and irritability as the main manifestations. Also known as liver deficiency and heat syndrome.

6. Kidney Yin Deficiency

A syndrome manifested by insufficient kidney yin fluid and weakened nourishing and moistening functions. It is mostly caused by yin deficiency in the body, long-term illness damaging the kidney, excessive sexual intercourse, fever damaging yin, or excessive intake of warm and dry foods that rob yin.
