Can I drink alcohol if I have keratitis

Keratitis is a general term for inflammation of the cornea. The importance of the eyes determines that keratitis will have a great impact. However, keratitis is not difficult to treat. As long as the method is appropriate, the treatment effect of keratitis is quite good. But some people like to drink alcohol normally, and during the treatment process, they worry that drinking will affect their recovery. So, can you drink alcohol if you have keratitis? Let’s take a look below.

Alcohol is contraindicated in patients with keratitis. Alcohol can reduce the body's immunity and accelerate the reproduction of viruses. Therefore, patients with viral keratitis must quit drinking alcohol and alcoholic beverages. Using moist hot compresses for keratitis can dilate blood vessels in the eyes, promote and improve local blood circulation, relieve irritation symptoms, promote absorption of inflammation, and enhance the repair ability of tissues.

Patients with heat-toxic type keratitis will find symptoms such as red, swollen and painful eyes, and dry and hard stools. They can be treated with purging fire and detoxification, and can use Yinhua Fuming Decoction. The main Chinese medicinal materials include honeysuckle, dandelion, roasted mulberry bark, scutellaria, gentian, coptis, vitex, rhubarb, xuanming powder, pollen, rehmannia, anemarrhena, fructus aurantii, akebia, and licorice. They can be decocted in water and taken twice a day.

Covering the affected eye with sterile gauze can avoid light stimulation, reduce the friction of the eyelid on the corneal surface, protect the ulcer wound, relieve pain, promote ulcer healing and prevent secondary infection. Therapeutic soft corneal contact lenses can also be worn, but they are contraindicated for those with conjunctivitis and excessive purulent secretions. Wear tinted glasses if necessary.

As mentioned above, patients with keratitis are not allowed to drink alcohol. Although alcohol is a good thing, it also has harmful effects on the human body. Therefore, if our eyes become bloodshot after drinking, we can use special methods to relieve the symptoms of discomfort. Patients with keratitis should not eat mutton or hot foods. Eat more high-calorie, high-protein foods such as beans, soy products, lean meat, eggs, etc. to help corneal repair.
