Complications of aortic dissection

Complications of aortic dissection

Aortic dissection is a relatively serious disease that may even threaten life. Therefore, when we face this disease, we should communicate fully with the doctor in a timely manner to ensure that the danger of the disease is eliminated. For elderly patients with similar diseases, they must pay attention in their daily lives to avoid overwork and can increase their heart capacity through some simple exercises. So, what are the complications of aortic dissection?

1. Ascending aortic dissection:

Such complications are common during and after surgery. The most serious outcome is ascending aortic dissection leading to the patient's death, which is undoubtedly the most serious complication of surgical treatment. It is usually caused by the following reasons.

(1) Various devices damage the aortic intima during the surgical operation.

(2) All covered stents used in surgical equipment have bare metal stents at their tips, which are in close contact with the aortic wall during surgery, and friction between the two may cause new wounds.

(3) An oversized stent results in greater radial tension and damage to the aorta.

(4) The patient’s own vascular wall is relatively fragile and cannot withstand the support of the stent graft.

2. Cerebrovascular accident:

Some patients may suffer hemiplegia due to cerebral infarction during surgery, and in severe cases may die from cerebral hemorrhage. This type of situation often occurs in patients with high blood pressure after surgery. Cerebral infarction during surgery may be related to the shedding of atherosclerotic plaques and controlled hypotension during surgery. Postoperative cerebral hemorrhage is associated with hypertension. Patients with aortic dissection often have concurrent diseases such as hypertension and arteriosclerosis.

3. Peripheral vascular damage.

4. Acute renal failure.

The above complications may occur during and after aortic dissection surgery. Medical staff and patients need to pay attention to them so that the patients' lives and health can be effectively guaranteed.
