Are there homologous chromosomes in mitosis?

Chromosomes are an important part of human genes. For men and women, most of their chromosomes are the same but also different, which constitutes the difference in their gender. However, there are many different types of chromosomes, one of which is called homologous chromosomes, which mainly refers to chromosomes that have similar morphological structures. If mitosis exists, are there homologous chromosomes?

1. Are there homologous chromosomes in mitosis?

For diploid organisms and organisms that already have homologous chromosomes, homologous chromosomes always exist during mitosis. However, haploid biological cells can also undergo normal mitosis, and such cells do not have homologous chromosomes during mitosis.

During mitosis, all chromosomes (including homologous chromosomes) are replicated and evenly distributed into two daughter cells. Homologous chromosomes always exist during the whole process. Homologous chromosomes refer to two chromosomes with the same morphology that combine during prophase one, one from the father and one from the mother, and they have the same morphology and size and contain similar genetic information. It can also be said that homologous chromosomes only exist during meiosis, and there are no homologous chromosomes during mitosis.

When sperm and eggs are generated, and when fertilization occurs, it can be said that chromosomes with the same shape are homologous chromosomes. During the mitosis process when the fertilized egg develops into a complete individual, there are chromosomes with the same shape and size, but we only call them chromosomes.

2. What is Mitosis

Mitosis, also known as indirect division, refers to the process by which eukaryotic cells divide to produce somatic cells. Mitosis, also known as indirect division, was discovered in plants by E. Strasburger (1880) and in animals by W. Fleming in 1882. The characteristic is that spindles and chromosomes appear during cell division, so that the daughter chromosomes that have been replicated in the S phase are evenly distributed to the daughter cells. This type of division is commonly seen in higher plants and animals (animals and higher plants).
