The difference between Rana and frog

The difference between Rana and frog

The forest frog and the frog are two completely different species. Strictly speaking, the forest frog does not belong to the frog family and is a protected animal. In daily life, the frog we know is the frog. The meat of the frog is very delicious and is loved by many people, but if it is not cooked correctly, it will lead to many toxic side effects, so we should understand it. So, what are the main differences between wood frogs and frogs?

1. Rana

Rana is the Chinese subspecies of the European forest frog. The product name is Toad. Widely distributed in northern China. It is also distributed in Siberia, North Korea, etc. There is great variation among individuals in different regions. The head, body and limbs are relatively slender, the animal is agile and has strong jumping ability, and there is a triangular dark-brown spot on the eardrum. The back of the body is mostly khaki, usually with dark spots scattered on the warts. The dorsal fold curves laterally above the tympanic membrane. It is mainly terrestrial and often lives in a moist and cool environment without strong light. Feeds on a variety of insects. From late September to early October, they migrate from the forest areas on the hillsides to the vicinity of the ditches and hibernate in groups under water.

A few overwinter in the mud or under tree roots and revive around the Qingming Festival the following year. The breeding season is from mid-April to early May. During the breeding period, they will hatch tadpoles in ditches and rivers in the fields in 8 to 20 days, and completely transform into frogs with a body length of about 19 mm in 1 month.

2. Frog

Frogs are amphibians belonging to the phylum Chordata, class Amphibia, order Anura, and family Ranidae. Adults have no tails. Their eggs are laid in water, fertilized outside the body, and hatch into tadpoles that breathe with gills. After mutation, adults mainly breathe with lungs and also through their skin. Most frogs reproduce through in vitro fertilization, and the fertilized eggs hatch into tadpoles outside the mother's body. Only 10 to 12 species of frogs in the world have evolved to be fertilized internally, and some of them will expel the fertilized eggs from the body to hatch into tadpoles. But frog in zoology specifically refers to the black-spotted sidefold frog. Frogs have always been considered oviparous, but scientists have discovered that a frog living in the rainforest of Sulawesi, Indonesia, can lay tadpoles. This frog is the only one among more than 6,000 species of frogs in the world that can "deposits tadpoles".

Frogs are slender and good at swimming. The neck is not distinct and has no ribs. The ulna and radius of the forelimbs are fused, and the tibia and fibula of the hind limbs are fused, so the claws cannot rotate flexibly, but the muscles of the limbs are well developed. The most primitive frogs began to evolve as early as the Triassic period. The earliest frogs that can jump today appeared in the Jurassic period. Because frogs mainly feed on insects and other invertebrates, they must live near water. There are about 130 species of frogs in China, almost all of which are experts in eliminating pests in forests and farmlands.
