Symptoms of cervical instability

Symptoms of cervical instability

Cervical instability is a type of cervical disease, and many elderly people suffer from it. Cervical instability is mainly caused by excessive pressure on the cervical spine, which leads to cervical deformation, making it very inconvenient for people to move their cervical spine. Many patients with cervical instability feel great pain and difficulty when turning their cervical spine. So, what are the symptoms of cervical instability?

Cervical instability is also known as cervical instability. Cervical instability refers to a syndrome caused by the cervical spine's anatomical displacement beyond its physiological limit under physiological load, and the appearance of corresponding clinical symptoms. With the increasing intensity of modern life, its incidence rate is on the rise, and it has become a more common cause of neck and shoulder pain, dizziness, chest tightness, and even numbness and pain in both upper limbs.

Clinical manifestations

Instability is a common cause of shoulder pain, and degenerative cervical instability has many clinical manifestations.

1. Neck, shoulder or upper limb pain, especially those who sit with their heads down for a long time. They often feel that the neck and shoulder pain worsens when they sit with their heads down for a long time, and they feel stiff and tired in the neck and upper back, and both upper limbs feel heavy and swollen. In the early stage, appropriate backward movement can alleviate the symptoms.

2. Sensory disturbances often include tingling, burning, numbness or pain, stiffness, coldness and decreased sensation in the limbs (especially the fingers of the upper limbs). The main symptom is decreased pain sensation in both upper limbs and hands.

3. Movement disorders: The patient feels that the muscles of the limbs are weakened, with poor hand grip and inflexible fingers, and the hands cannot make small movements.

4. Other symptoms may include numbness and pain in the scalp, headache and dizziness, nausea and vomiting, tinnitus, blurred vision, vertigo, and unsteady gait. During the examination, there was localized tenderness at the back of the neck, mainly in the C4 to C7 segments, and cervical muscle spasm. Neck flexion and extension are limited by pain, but neurologic examination is often unremarkable, and passive shoulder range of motion is normal.
