How to quickly germinate winter melon seeds

Because the seed coat of winter melon is thick, which hinders the seeds from absorbing water and oxygen, its seeds are much more difficult to germinate than ordinary seeds. Before sowing, in order to germinate quickly, the seeds can be soaked to accelerate germination.

Method of soaking and germination:

First, soak the selected wax gourd seeds in 50-60℃ hot water, stirring constantly, until the water temperature drops to about 30℃, stop stirring, and continue soaking for 12-14 hours to allow the seeds to fully absorb water. Wrap them with gauze or towels and place them in a warm place. It is best to germinate them at a constant temperature of 25℃. After 3 to 4 days, when most of the seeds sprout white buds, they can be sown.

When planting winter melon, you should choose sandy loam or clay loam with good drainage, deep soil and fertility. The previous crop should be a field where no melon crops have been planted for more than three years, and it is better if the previous crop was rice.

Planting management:

Choose new land that has not been used to grow melon crops or fields that have been practicing water-land rotation for 3 to 5 years for planting, and apply sufficient base fertilizer. Make ridges and prepare the land. The bed surface is 110 to 120 cm, the ditch width is 50 cm, and there are circular ditches around the field to connect the ditches for easy drainage and irrigation. Reasonable density of planting. When the temperature is stable at above 15℃, choose a sunny day for transplanting, planting one row per bed with a spacing of 60 to 70 cm between plants. Plant 450 to 550 plants per mu, water the roots after planting, and spray 800 times diluted new lipid film in time to protect the seedlings, prevent infection by pathogens, improve the ability to resist natural disasters, and allow the seedlings to pass through the seedling period smoothly.

10 to 15 days after winter melon sets fruit is an important time to apply fertilizer. In the middle stage of fruit development, that is, 15 to 25 days after fruit setting, sufficient fertilizer and water should be provided. In the late stage of fruit development, that is, 25 days after fruit setting, if the leaves and vines of the plant grow normally, there is generally no need to apply fertilizer, just keep the soil moist. The main pests of winter melon are thrips and melon flies, which will directly affect the fruiting of winter melon and need to be sprayed with pesticides in time for prevention and control.
