Common ways of hepatitis C transmission

Hepatitis C is a contagious, chronic liver disease caused by the hepatitis C virus. It is highly contagious but can be prevented with proper treatment.

The main transmission routes are: sexual contact, mother-to-child transmission, and blood transmission. It can also be transmitted through saliva, semen, and breast milk, so although hepatitis C patients can fall in love, they must avoid intimate actions. And you cannot get married if hepatitis C has not been cured.

Transmission through sexual contact: Intimate contact between lovers and couples can easily spread the disease. Activities like kissing and unprotected sex can be contagious. Because the virus is contained in the saliva, semen and vaginal secretions of hepatitis C patients.

Mother-to-child transmission (mainly divided into two situations):

1. Transmission during pregnancy: Transmission through the placenta (the transitional organ through which the mother provides nutrition to the child).

2. Transmission through postpartum breastfeeding: When the liver function of the hepatitis C virus carrier is normal, the infectiousness is very weak and breastfeeding is possible. However, if the mother's nipples are damaged or the newborn has oral ulcers or damage, breastfeeding should be stopped immediately.

Blood transmission:

Generally, hepatitis C infection can be caused by using non-disposable syringes, needles, dental instruments that have not been strictly sterilized, or getting a tattoo in an area that has not been thoroughly disinfected.

Patients often delay treatment due to low awareness of hepatitis C, so hepatitis C is called the "silent killer" and often causes explosive spread. If hepatitis C is not treated in time or is treated improperly, it will turn into cirrhosis and eventually develop into liver cancer.
