Why can't I measure my blood pressure?

Why can't I measure my blood pressure?

When you reach a certain age, especially if you like to stay up late and drink, you must measure your blood pressure regularly. The purpose is to be able to detect blood pressure abnormalities at the first time. However, many people will encounter some small accidents when measuring blood pressure, such as being unable to measure. First, you should consider whether the clothing is too thick. Secondly, you should pay attention to whether it is placed on the brachial artery. If it is placed in the wrong position, it will definitely not be measured.

Hypertension refers to a clinical syndrome characterized by increased systemic arterial blood pressure (systolic and/or diastolic blood pressure) (systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg, diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mmHg), which may be accompanied by functional or organic damage to organs such as the heart, brain, and kidneys. Hypertension is the most common chronic disease and the main risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. A normal person's blood pressure fluctuates within a certain range as the internal and external environment changes. In the general population, blood pressure levels gradually increase with age, especially in systolic blood pressure. However, after the age of 50, diastolic blood pressure shows a downward trend and pulse pressure also increases accordingly. In recent years, people's understanding of the role of multiple risk factors for cardiovascular disease and the protection of target organs such as the heart, brain, and kidneys has continued to deepen, and the diagnostic criteria for hypertension have also been constantly adjusted. It is currently believed that patients with the same blood pressure level have different risks of developing cardiovascular disease. Therefore, the concept of blood pressure stratification has been developed, that is, patients with different risks of cardiovascular disease should have different appropriate blood pressure levels. Blood pressure values and risk factor assessment are the main basis for diagnosing and formulating hypertension treatment plans. The goals of hypertension management are different for different patients. When facing patients, doctors judge the most appropriate blood pressure range for the patient based on the reference standards and their specific circumstances, and adopt targeted treatment measures. On the basis of improving lifestyle, it is recommended to use 24-hour long-acting antihypertensive drugs to control blood pressure. In addition to assessing blood pressure in the clinic, patients should also pay attention to the monitoring and management of their morning blood pressure at home to control blood pressure and reduce the incidence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events.

Second cause

1. Genetic factors

About 60% of patients with hypertension have a family history. It is currently believed to be caused by polygenic inheritance, and 30% to 50% of patients with hypertension have a genetic background.

2. Mental and environmental factors

Long-term mental stress, excitement, anxiety, noise or adverse visual stimulation can also cause hypertension.

3. Age Factor

The incidence rate tends to increase with age, and is highest in people over 40 years old.

4. Lifestyle factors

An unreasonable dietary structure, such as excessive sodium salt, low-potassium diet, heavy drinking, and excessive intake of saturated fatty acids can all increase blood pressure. Smoking can accelerate the process of atherosclerosis and is a risk factor for hypertension.

5. Effects of medications

Contraceptives, hormones, anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs, etc. can all affect blood pressure.

6. Influence of other diseases

Obesity, diabetes, sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome, thyroid disease, renal artery stenosis, renal parenchymal damage, adrenal space-occupying lesions, pheochromocytoma, other neuroendocrine tumors, etc.
