The efficacy and function of sandalwood mosquito coils

The efficacy and function of sandalwood mosquito coils

Now the weather is getting hotter and hotter, many people have mosquitoes at home. In fact, even if the protective measures at home are done well, the problem of mosquitoes cannot be avoided. It has become a common thing to always have mosquito repellent. However, some people dare not use mosquito repellent because of sensitive skin. They can only drive away mosquitoes by lighting mosquito coils. There are many types of mosquito coils, the most common of which is sandalwood mosquito coils. What is the effect?

Are mosquito coils really poisonous?

Yes! If you look closely at the outer packaging of mosquito coils, you will see the words "slightly toxic" written on them. As you can imagine, it is toxic to a certain extent, but as long as it is used correctly, it will not cause poisoning.

First, let's understand the types of mosquito coils

There are two kinds of mosquito coils on the market, one is Chinese herbal medicine represented by pyrethrum, and the other is chemical insecticide. Chemical pesticides are toxic in themselves, and long-term inhalation will cause a series of chronic poisoning symptoms such as dizziness and nausea. The Chinese herbal mosquito coils represented by pyrethrum produce d-allethrin and pralin during the combustion process, which attack the respiratory system of mosquitoes and kill them. According to experts, this pyrethroid is a low-toxic and highly effective substance. Although it has certain harm to the human body after burning, it is not as exaggerated as poisoning. On the other hand, pyrethroids are pesticides recommended by the World Health Organization for use in controlling pests. Their usage is strictly regulated, and toxicology tests are also carried out on them before production. Therefore, as long as the product is regular and qualified, its content must be within the range prescribed by the state.

Secondly, improper use will increase its harm

Normally, mosquito coils will only exert their insecticidal effect after they are fully burned. However, if it is not completely burned, carcinogens such as carbonyl compounds, benzene and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons will be produced. It can be seen from this that as long as it is used correctly, it will not cause harm to the human body. After all, so far, no poisoning caused by contact with pyrethroids has been found.

Finally, mosquito coils are irritating to the respiratory tract.

Although mosquito coils are not highly toxic, the smoke they produce after burning does irritate the respiratory tract. Especially for people with asthma, it is best to avoid using mosquito coils.

Precautions for using mosquito coils:

1. People with sensitive skin, asthma, pregnant women, infants and young children should use it with caution.

2. When using mosquito repellent products, never close doors and windows tightly. If it is a mosquito coil, it should also be lit at the vent to prevent harmful gases from staying in the house.

3. The brand of mosquito coils should be changed regularly to reduce the mosquitoes' drug resistance and achieve better mosquito repellent effect.

Tips:

You can pour the laundry detergent into a basin and place it in places where mosquitoes are present to prevent mosquitoes. This is because laundry detergent is alkaline and mosquitoes cannot survive in an alkaline environment. But laundry detergent has a fragrance, which will attract mosquitoes, thus achieving the effect of killing mosquitoes.

The result of my dilemma: Mosquito-repellent coils are indeed toxic to a certain extent, but as long as they are up to standard and used correctly, they will not cause poisoning. However, in order to avoid the consequences of poisoning, I still recommend the use of physical mosquito prevention methods such as mosquito nets, screen windows, and screen doors, or you can also choose mosquito repellent products with lighter odors and less irritation, such as mosquito coils and mosquito repellent liquids, to reduce its harm to people.
