How long does it take for soy milk poisoning to be cured

For most people, soy milk is a health drink because it is rich in high protein, which is good for people's health. But it doesn’t mean that drinking soy milk has only benefits. Some people have also suffered from soy milk poisoning. Generally speaking, soy milk poisoning mainly manifests as diarrhea, which is most likely caused by people accidentally drinking raw soy milk, so you must pay attention to relief. So how long does it take for soy milk poisoning to be relieved?

1. Soy milk contains trypsin inhibitors and saponins. If it is not heated thoroughly, the harmful substances in it will not be destroyed and drinking it may cause poisoning. The incubation period is generally 30 minutes to 1 hour, and the main symptoms are nausea, vomiting, abdominal distension, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Mild cases can be relieved on their own, while severe cases require symptomatic treatment.

Because legumes (soybeans, peas, lentils, beans, sword beans, broad beans, etc.) contain some anti-nutritional factors, such as trypsin inhibitory factor, lipoxygenase and phytohemagglutinin, drinking raw or unboiled soy milk within a few minutes to an hour may cause poisoning, gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, bloating and diarrhea. Severe cases can cause dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. Mild cases can usually heal themselves within 3 to 5 hours, while severe symptoms may last for 1 to 2 days. These anti-nutritional factors are heat unstable and can be eliminated by heating.

3. Soy milk should be boiled thoroughly before drinking. Usually, when the soy milk in the pot begins to foam and boil, the temperature is only 80-90℃, which is not enough to completely destroy the toxins in the soy milk. At this time, you should reduce the heat to prevent the soy milk from overflowing. Continue boiling for 5 to 10 minutes to completely destroy the toxic substances in the soy milk. Therefore, soy milk must be cooked thoroughly before drinking to effectively prevent poisoning.
