Are there many cases where IVF is successful in one try?

In life, many men and women suffer from infertility. At this time, it may be difficult to pass on the family line. Sometimes, after treatment in multiple hospitals, there is no effect. Doctors will suggest patients to consider in vitro fertilization, because in vitro fertilization only needs to combine male sperm and female eggs to form a fertilized egg in a test tube, and the probability of success is relatively high. So, are there many successful cases of in vitro fertilization?

What is the success rate of IVF?

In vitro fertilization is divided into three stages: the preparation stage, the transplantation stage, and the pregnancy period after transplantation.

Everyone should be familiar with the pregnancy period, so what should be done during the preparation and implantation stages?

During the preparation stage, the woman must first undergo a physical examination within 2 to 5 days of her menstrual period, mainly to test sex hormones, ovarian function and routine physical examinations to see if her body is suitable for IVF. Some hospitals will also require a chest X-ray examination; the man also needs to have a semen test (no sexual intercourse 2 to 7 days before the examination) and a routine physical examination. If there are no abnormalities found in the physical examination, the next step is to create a test tube baby file. After the file is created, an ovulation induction plan will be formulated based on the patient's condition. The so-called ovulation induction means that originally only one follicle would mature in a month, but now drugs are used to make multiple follicles mature at the same time.

When the follicle matures, the egg is taken out and combined with sperm to form an embryo. After 3 or 5 days of embryo culture, it is transplanted into the uterus and the transplantation stage is successfully completed. The entire process from physical examination to transplantation takes 50 to 60 days for most patients.

Can you estimate the success rate of IVF?

From a technical point of view, the overall success rate of in vitro fertilization in China is about 30%, while in the United States it is about 80%. However, each patient's situation is different, and the success rate is also different. Young women have a higher success rate than older women, but the chances of success for women over 40 drop significantly.

In addition, the man’s age will also affect the success rate of IVF. If you are too old, the motility and quality of sperm will decline, which can also lead to poor embryo quality and cause miscarriage.

Of course, there are many factors that may affect the success rate during the three stages of IVF. If you want to increase the success rate of IVF, you must try to avoid factors that reduce the success rate at each stage.

At which stage is IVF most likely to fail?

Whether in vitro fertilization can be successful ultimately depends on whether the baby can be born smoothly. From the initial preparation to the final delivery, there is a possibility of failure at any stage. For example: before doing IVF, whether the woman's hormone levels are normal, whether she has gynecological diseases such as endometriosis, etc.; during IVF, the quality of the follicles and sperm is good; during the transplantation stage, the quality of the embryo, the transplantation technology, etc., these will affect the success rate of IVF.

If the IVF is not successful, or even fails multiple times, then a comprehensive examination is needed to find the cause of the failure, such as B-ultrasound examination of the uterus, genetic testing, hysteroscopy, as well as antibody testing and hormone endocrine level testing.

After finding the cause, treat it symptomatically and strive for a successful pregnancy. For example, if there is adhesion in the endometrium, you can have surgery first, cure the endometrial problem and then do IVF; if the hormone endocrine level is abnormal, you can adjust it to normal level through medication before doing IVF.

However, medicine is not omnipotent. It is possible that no problem can be found after various tests. This is called unexplained failure. This situation is not uncommon, and even if it occurs, doctors will do their best to help patients and improve and increase the success rate at every stage.
