How to distinguish eye nematodes from blood vessels

How to distinguish eye nematodes from blood vessels

Eye nematodes are also an eye disease that can exist in the eyes of animals, but eye nematodes are relatively rare in daily life. At the same time, many pet owners do not pay attention to eye nematodes and fail to distinguish between eye nematodes and blood vessels in time, resulting in missing the best time for treatment. Because the existence form of eye nematodes is somewhat similar to the mentality of blood vessels in the eyes, everyone should understand the difference between eye nematodes and blood vessels so that they can treat eye nematodes in time.

The conjunctival sucking nematode, also known as the oriental nematode, is a type of nematode that parasitizes the tear ducts, nictitating membranes or conjunctival sacs of mammals and birds. Most of them are animal parasites, and only the conjunctival sucking nematode has been reported to parasitize humans. Dogs and cats infected with this parasite are the sources of infection. The disease is spread by flies licking the eyes of infected animals and then licking other animals or humans. Dogs infected with conjunctival sucking nematodes generally have no obvious symptoms. In severe cases, they will tear, have redness and swelling of the conjunctiva, and white thread-like worms can be seen in the corners of the eyes when the eyelids are opened. Human disease usually occurs after the fly breeding season, with symptoms including conjunctival congestion, photophobia, and tearing. Both dogs and cats are infected with conjunctival sucking nematodes. As companion animals, they have a close relationship with humans. In order to prevent companion animals from transmitting worms to humans, conjunctival sucking nematodes infection in dogs and cats should be diagnosed and treated in a timely manner.

Eye nematodes are a type of nematodes that generally parasitize the tear ducts, nictitating membranes and conjunctival sacs of mammals and birds. Most of the conjunctival sucking nematodes found clinically are parasitic on animals, and there are only a few reports of human parasitism.

The common sources of infection for eye nematodes are dogs and cats. Some flies lick the eyes of infected animals and then lick other animals or humans to cause infection.

Dogs usually do not show any symptoms in the early stages of eye nematodes infection. As the disease progresses, the conjunctiva will become red, swollen, and tearful. At this time, when we open the eyelids, we can see the white, thread-like eye nematodes. Generally, eye nematodes are more common during the season when flies are active.

Although it's just a small bug in the eye, the treatment is not that simple. First you need to patiently remove all the worms, and then rinse your eyes. Use medication to control conjunctival inflammation. When necessary, insecticides are needed to kill the insects.

It should be noted that many dogs are not quiet enough for doctors to remove these worms, so the actual process of removing the worms requires anesthesia.

Prevention is always better than treatment, so it is particularly important to create a fly-free environment for your dog.
