What is progesterone

What is progesterone

Many people in life do not know what progesterone is. In fact, progesterone is progesterone, a progestin that can protect the balance of women's uterus and also protect the endometrium. If progesterone is too low or too high, it will cause some adverse problems and may even affect future pregnancy functions.

How to read the progesterone test report? What to do if progesterone is low?

What is Progesterone

Progesterone is also known as progesterone. It can also be called progesterone, progesterone, progestagen, progesterone, progestin or progesterone, etc. It is called progesterone in English, abbreviated as "P". It is a progestin that can protect the female endometrium. During pregnancy, progesterone can provide support and protection for the early growth and development of the fetus, and can have a certain calming effect on the uterus. In clinical practice, the progesterone content in women's bodies can be used to diagnose whether they have symptoms of threatened abortion, and it can also be used to determine whether the corpus luteum function and ovarian ovulation are normal.

The role of progesterone

1. Blastocyst implantation

When a woman ovulates, progesterone is secreted by the corpus luteum. At this time, the endometrium has also transitioned from the proliferative phase to the secretory phase. Progesterone can promote the development of the endometrium and make it easier for the embryo to implant.

2. Immune protection

Progesterone helps improve the body's immunity. Medical research has found that if an animal's uterus contains a tumor, after the injection of progesterone hormone, the cells can more easily integrate into the uterus without being rejected. Therefore, it can be explained that during a woman's pregnancy, as the secretion of progesterone increases, the fetus can be protected from maternal rejection and the pregnancy can be maintained. Therefore, if a pregnant woman secretes too little progesterone, it can easily lead to miscarriage.

3. Inhibit uterine contractions

Medical experiments have shown that progesterone can inhibit the contraction of a woman's uterus but does not affect the development of the embryo, thereby maintaining pregnancy. Progesterone can change the permeability of the uterine muscle cell membrane to ions in the expectant mother's body, thereby reducing the response of the uterus to various stimuli, thus achieving the effect of preserving the pregnancy. Progesterone can also preserve the fetus because the permeability of the uterine muscle cell membrane to ions will be affected and changed, thereby reducing the degree of uterine stimulation.
