What to do if your singing voice is hoarse

What to do if your singing voice is hoarse

Many people hope that their voices should be loud when they sing, but the sound they make when they sing is very hoarse, just like singing rock music. If you are not born with such a voice, it is due to excessive force or too long causing vocal cord bleeding, which leads to hoarseness. Be careful not to practice singing blindly, but also use the correct method, which will help recovery.

Correct singing method:

When singing, let your Adam's apple sink and hum in your voice. Be careful not to just shout in your throat. Make the sound from your lower abdomen, which is also the dantian. Sing with a sighing feeling. Let the sound penetrate from Dantian along the spine to the top of the head. The sound is naturally clear and clean. Don't rely too much on your voice. Vocal music is an art, not a technique, and must not be practiced blindly. Practicing with incorrect methods will only damage your voice and even cause congestion of the vocal cords.

Singing skills:

Singing is an art. If we want to improve people's singing ability, we should give them singing skills training. The training content includes: singing posture, breathing, breath, vocalization and pronunciation, etc.

How to operate

1. Vocalization of singing:

Larynx and vocal cords

The larynx and vocal cords are the vocal organs of singing, the core part of singing, the fortress leading to the overall singing, and the golden key to unlock the treasure house of singing art. Therefore, it is very necessary to understand and clarify the position and state of the larynx and vocal cords when singing. Generally speaking, the position of the larynx when singing should be lower than when speaking (just like the feeling of the larynx when we take a deep breath, because the position of the larynx when inhaling is slightly lower than when at rest). Many people call the position of the larynx when inhaling the "position".

When singing, the larynx should always stay in this position during the transition between words and sentences, and should not move up, down, left or right away from the horizontal position. Of course, the stability of the laryngeal position is relative stability during movement, not rigid and motionless stability.

Just like a ball floating on the water always remains stable on the water, if we compare the ball to the larynx, the state of the ball floating on the water is like the state of the larynx being stable in the inhalation position.

Therefore, the position of the larynx during singing should always be in a low, comfortable and stable position, and the laryngeal wall should be open.

2. Open the throat:

"Opening the throat" is a very important central link in singing training, which directly affects the quality of the voice. "Open the throat" means to stabilize the larynx in the correct position, actively contract the palate upward into an arch, relax the root of the tongue and place it flat behind the lower teeth, open the jaws, relax the chin and let it drop naturally and then pull it up. At this time, the throat is open. So how can we help beginners "open their throats"?

(l) The "yawning" state allows the mouth to open naturally and relax, the palate to lift, and the space inside the mouth to increase. Therefore, when singing, the throat should not be blocked, but should be opened to allow the breath to flow out freely. The "yawning" state is indeed a good way to open the throat, and it also ensures that the singer is in a good singing state. During normal practice, you can also "yawn" with your mouth closed. When you yawn with your mouth closed, the inner state is also open and raised. If we can maintain this state when singing, then your voice will no longer be "white" or "flat", your voice will be "firm". "Round".

(2) Use the "smiling" state to open the throat. The "smiling" we are talking about does not mean just laughing, but refers to lifting the "zygomatic muscles". Raising the "zygomatic muscles" means opening the nose and pharynx, opening the jaws, and making the zygomatic muscles (zygomatic bones) on both sides of the face smile. This smiling state can open your throat and allow you to obtain a high-position sound. "The singing state is a yawn inside and a smile outside", this is a very insightful statement.
