My knees hurt when I squat down

My knees hurt when I squat down

The knee is an important part of the human body and is also a part that is easily damaged. The knee joint is in a state of flexion, extension, and twisting for a long time. The constant impact and friction will invisibly put a burden on the knee and easily cause wear and tear injuries. Some people experience knee pain when they squat or walk. This is caused by excessive wear and tear of the knees. So what should we do?

The symptoms of patellar chondrosis mainly occur in a half-squatting position, and the pain is more severe when walking up and down stairs, especially when going downstairs. As the disease progresses, when the cartilage becomes fibrotic and the synovium becomes inflamed, the uneven surface of the patella may cause the knee joint to suddenly become unable to flex or extend (i.e., locking symptom). If inflammatory reactions such as joint effusion occur, the knee joint will become swollen and painful. In the later stages of the disease, osteoarthritis will develop.

Prescription less to allow knee joints to squat

Patients with patellar chondromalacia should minimize walking up and down stairs and avoid squatting exercises. When the pain is severe or accompanied by swelling, in addition to resting, you can take anti-inflammatory, analgesic and cartilage protecting drugs under the guidance of a doctor.

Usually, excessive compression and friction on the patellar surface should be avoided, which is the key to preventing patellar chondromalacia. For example, movements such as horse stance and weight-bearing knee flexion and extension exercises should not be done too often. Patellar malfunction is also related to senile arteriosclerosis and local blood supply insufficiency.

Clinically, carelessness in daily life is also a cause of joint disease.

Squatting posture causes knee injuries. A US study says that Americans are fatter than Chinese, and being overweight can easily lead to arthritis in the knees. Survey data also show that Chinese elderly people are more likely to suffer from knee arthritis than American elderly people. This is because Chinese people have the habit of squatting frequently. The squatting posture over the years can easily cause knee damage, which can lead to knee arthritis in old age.

High heels cause knee arthritis. Studies have shown that for women who wear high heels, the pressure on their knee joints is three times that of ordinary people. Especially when going downstairs in high heels, the pressure on the knee joints is 7 to 9 times that of normal people. This extra pressure can cause degenerative changes in the bones and joints of the knee and lead to knee osteoarthritis. Research from Harvard Medical School also stated that whether you wear pointed high heels or wide high heels, the pressure on the knee joints when walking is the same. Therefore, women should wear low-heeled shoes or flat shoes more often.

Excessive weight-bearing leads to osteoarthritis. Research by Dutch scientists shows that heavy physical labor increases the risk of osteoarthritis in unilateral or bilateral hip joints. This is because long-term weight-bearing in the joints causes the degeneration of cartilage, causing it to become thinner or disappear, resulting in a reduction in the joint's ability to absorb impact. As long as the joints are subjected to greater force or are used more frequently, pain will be felt. This change occurs in joints throughout the body.

In addition, joint pain is clearly related to dark and damp living rooms, cold weather, and continuous rain. Therefore, patients should always pay attention to weather forecasts and strengthen cold prevention and warmth protection when cold waves hit and the weather changes. In terms of diet, high-fat diets should be controlled, because ketone bodies are produced during the oxidation of fat in the body. Excessive ketone bodies can irritate joints and even cause joint swelling, stiffness, and movement disorders.
