These muscles are used in walking, running, and jumping, and since the hamstrings are also cross-joint muscles, they are also prone to strain. When the knee is fixed, one of the important functions of the hamstrings is to tilt the pelvis posteriorly. Biceps femoris long head: Only the long head originates from the pelvis, but both the long head and the short head end at the same position. Their main functions are to extend the hip joint, knee joint, and flex and externally rotate the knee joint.
