Where is the thigh tendon

In our lives, we all know that when we massage, there are not only various acupoints, but also the thigh tendons. Frequent massage of the thigh muscles can also improve our muscle activity ability. Especially for some strenuous exercise, tendon massage is very important. However, many people do not know the location of the thigh tendon when they are massaging. So where is the thigh tendon?

Front thigh muscles

The muscles on the front of the thigh are mainly the quadriceps femoris and sartorius

Rectus Femoris:

The main function of the quadriceps is to extend the knee joint. The rectus femoris is attached to the pelvis and works with the iliopsoas muscle to flex the hip and extend the knee at the same time. (We all know that cross-joint muscles are more prone to strain. The quadriceps femoris is an important muscle for maintaining the human body's standing and walking posture. During exercise, it is easy to cause a strain at the origin of the rectus femoris (muscle-tendon junction) due to sudden forceful contraction, which can lead to groin pain when the hip is flexed. Pay attention to the differentiation from hip joint inflammation and iliopsoas muscle injury)

Origin: Anterior inferior iliac spine (straight head of rectus femoris)

Upper edge of acetabulum (reflected head of rectus femoris)

Insertion: Together with the quadriceps femoris, it forms the patellar tendon, which crosses the patella and inserts on the tibial tuberosity.

Sartorius muscle:

It is a strip of muscle that extends from the pelvis to the inner side of the knee, diagonally across the front and inner side of the thigh, with the tip of the finger being the goose foot. It has the function of flexing, abducting and internally rotating the hip joint.

Origin: Anterior superior iliac spine

Insertion: medial side of tibial tuberosity (superficial anserine), fascia of lower leg

Posterior thigh muscles

The main ones are the biceps femoris, semitendinosus, and semimembranosus. Collectively called the hamstrings, their main function is to pull the pelvis back and flex the calf. These muscles are used in walking, running, and jumping, and since the hamstrings are also cross-joint muscles, they are also prone to strain.

When the knee is fixed, one of the important functions of the hamstrings is to tilt the pelvis posteriorly.

Biceps femoris long head:

Only the long head originates from the pelvis, but both the long head and the short head end at the same position. Their main functions are to extend the hip joint, knee joint, and flex and externally rotate the knee joint.

BIG THING: The biceps femoris is the only external rotator of the knee, while the internal rotators are the gracilis, semitendinosus, semimembranosus, popliteus, and sartorius (so don't complain about internal rotation of the knee, the biceps femoris is the one that's doing the hard work)

Starting point: ischial tuberosity

Insertion: Fibular head, crural fascia

Semitendinosus, semimembranosus:

The semitendinosus and semimembranosus have similar functions. The semimembranosus is covered by the semitendinosus and has a flat shape. The main functions are to extend the hip, flex the knee, and internally rotate the knee. When the knee is fixed, it helps keep the pelvis upright.

Starting point: ischial tuberosity

Insertion: medial side of tibial tuberosity (shallow anserine)

Starting point: ischial tuberosity

Insertion: Medial side of tibia (deep anserine)

Inner thigh muscles

Draw your hips inward to keep your pelvis stable and not moved by the movement of your legs.

Most of the thigh adductor muscles originate from the pubic ramus of the pelvis, the ischial tuberosity, and attach to the femur.
