If parents have high blood pressure, will it be inherited?

As people age, due to the long-term accumulation of some bad habits, many people face symptoms such as high blood pressure and high blood lipids. Once they suffer from high blood pressure, it is often reflected in the patient's cardiovascular area, and they are prone to symptoms of arrhythmia, dizziness, and even shock in severe cases. It is not difficult to find in life that if parents suffer from high blood pressure, their children are also relatively more likely to suffer from high blood pressure. Does this mean that parents' high blood pressure will be passed on to their children?

Nowadays, more and more people suffer from high blood pressure. What factors cause high blood pressure? Is it really hereditary? Hypertension has a clear genetic tendency. Epidemiological studies have shown that hypertension has a clear familial clustering. It is estimated that at least 20% to 40% of blood pressure variations in the population are determined by genetic factors.

Therefore, if both parents suffer from high blood pressure, the probability of their children developing the disease will be significantly higher than those whose parents do not have high blood pressure. Genetics is an important factor, but not the absolute factor.

If both parents do not have hypertension, the probability of their children suffering from hypertension is much lower than if one or both parents have hypertension. According to a survey, the probability of children whose parents do not have hypertension suffering from hypertension is 3%, while if one of the parents has hypertension, the probability of their children suffering from hypertension will increase to 28%; if both parents have hypertension, the incidence rate of their children will increase to 46%.

Sixty-five percent of the adult siblings of hypertensive patients may also suffer from hypertension. Looking at twins, the prevalence of hypertension in monozygotic twins is significantly higher than that in dizygotic twins, which further illustrates the important role of genetics in hypertension.

Other factors related to the onset of hypertension include hyperlipidemia, obesity, diabetes, and a high-salt diet. Therefore, to put it simply, the factors that cause hypertension mainly include genes and environment, that is, under the influence of multi-gene inheritance, coupled with the common living environment, eating habits, personality and hobbies of the same family, there is a tendency for multiple diseases to occur in the family.

Of course, this does not mean that if parents have high blood pressure, their children will definitely have high blood pressure. By controlling other causes of high blood pressure, such as smoking, alcoholism, excessive fatigue, emotional instability, etc., high blood pressure can be reduced. If parents do not have high blood pressure, will their children not have high blood pressure?

No. Although the onset of hypertension is related to genetics, surveys show that if both parents do not have hypertension, the incidence of hypertension in their children is 15.6% for males and 15.5% for females, which is relatively lower, but it does not mean that they will not suffer from hypertension. Genetics is only an important factor in the development of hypertension, but not the only factor. If the parents do not have high blood pressure, their children will also develop high blood pressure if they do not pay attention to removing or avoiding other factors that cause high blood pressure.

Will high blood pressure be passed on to the next generation? High blood pressure has certain genetic factors, but we can prevent it through daily eating habits and a good lifestyle. Finally, I wish everyone stays away from the trouble of high blood pressure.
