Breaststroke during lumbar protrusion period

Breaststroke during lumbar protrusion period

As you can tell from the name, breaststroke is swimming in the water like a frog. Its swimming method is relatively simple, so even for people who have just learned to swim, it is a very simple thing to learn breaststroke. People who suffer from lumbar herniation will generally actively seek some countermeasures to treat their disease. So, can breaststroke effectively treat lumbar herniation?

Swimming can effectively relieve the symptoms of lumbar disc herniation.

1. It is basically certain that swimming can effectively exercise the waist and back muscles and help prevent lumbar diseases. At least one thing can be confirmed, that is, when swimming, under the action of buoyancy, the human body can be in a state of basic weightlessness. This relaxing environment can effectively reduce the burden on the waist. For patients with lumbar disc disease, swimming can play a good auxiliary therapeutic role.

2. Are all swimming styles suitable for patients with lumbar disc disease? The answer is no. Although swimming is good for the lumbar spine, not all swimming styles are suitable. Therefore, when swimming to relieve lumbar disc disease, you must pay attention to using the correct swimming style and method. If you are not aware of this, swimming will hardly relieve symptoms and may even aggravate the condition. The four major swimming styles are breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle and butterfly stroke. From the perspective of movement posture alone and combined with the medical point of view, breaststroke is definitely the best for the lumbar spine, especially the wave breaststroke. Breaststroke mainly relies on the waist, abdomen and legs to generate strength (beginners may disagree with this and think that the waist and abdomen do not generate strength, it doesn't matter, you will experience it after in-depth research and practice) at the same time, the shoulders and back need to exert strength when breathing during breaststroke, which solves the problem of back pain and is especially suitable for patients with low back pain and cervical spondylosis.

3. Butterfly stroke is not suitable for patients with lumbar disc herniation. Compared with breaststroke, butterfly stroke can also effectively exercise the waist and abdomen, but its intensity is relatively high. If patients with lumbar disc herniation use it improperly, it will not only fail to alleviate the condition, but may also aggravate the condition.

According to experts, "Butterfly stroke mainly relies on the waist, abdomen and upper limbs to generate power, and the range of motion is relatively large. Long-term butterfly stroke can easily increase the burden on the lumbar spine due to the long-term stress on the vertebral plates of the lumbar spine, and even cause lumbar compression fractures. Therefore, patients with lumbar disc herniation should not do butterfly stroke."

4. Freestyle and backstroke are also exercises for patients with lumbar disc herniation. First of all, their training for the waist and abdomen is continuous, low-frequency lateral movement, which can effectively make up for the lack of lateral movement of the lumbar disc in normal land activities, so that the lateral movement of the lumbar spine is not just limited to turning and warm-up.

5. Several things that patients with lumbar spondylosis need to pay attention to when swimming: It is not advisable to swim during the acute period of lumbar disc herniation. Swimming should not be avoided in cold weather or in low water temperatures, especially in winter (which can stimulate muscle and blood vessel contraction and compress nerves). Also, the amount of exercise should not be too much.

6. It is worth reminding you that you should not think that you can ignore this article just because you do not have lumbar disc herniation. In fact, sometimes prevention is more important and meaningful than treatment.
