Kidney yang deficiency is a term in traditional Chinese medicine, also known as kidney yang deficiency, kidney yang deficiency, and life gate fire decline. This disease is a type of deficiency-cold syndrome due to kidney-yang deficiency, failure of warming function, and loss of qi transformation. Common symptoms include fear of cold, cold limbs, coldness below the waist, pale or dark complexion, fatigue, clear and long urination, frequent urination at night, pale tongue with white coating, and weak pulse. It is mostly caused by factors such as yang deficiency, kidney deficiency due to aging, kidney damage due to long-term illness, and excessive sexual intercourse.

The clinical manifestations of kidney yang deficiency mainly include the following aspects:

1. The soreness and pain in the waist and knees is caused by the deficiency of kidney yang, which cannot warm the waist and bones, resulting in the loss of bone nourishment and insufficient marrow fluid;

2. Male impotence and premature ejaculation, female uterine cold and infertility are due to the kidney storing sperm and controlling reproduction, and when the kidney yang is insufficient, the life gate fire is weak, and their reproductive function is reduced;

3. Chronic diarrhea, indigestion, and diarrhea at dawn are caused by the decline of the fire in the gate of life, the fire cannot generate earth, and the spleen fails to function properly;

4. Frequent urination, clear and long urination, and frequent urination at night are due to the kidney controlling urination and defecation, insufficient kidney yang, and bladder gasification disorder;

5. Edema below the waist is caused by kidney yang deficiency which cannot warm and transform water. Water accumulates inside the body, overflows onto the skin, and stagnates in the gastrointestinal tract. Because water and moisture tend to flow downward, edema below the waist is particularly severe.

6. Dark and dull complexion due to excessive deficiency of kidney yang and turbid yin permeating the skin;

7. Fear of cold and cold limbs, why is the lower limbs? It is because Yang deficiency cannot warm the skin; and Yin cold is prevalent in the lower body, so the lower limbs, especially the feet, are obviously cold.

8. Mental depression is caused by insufficient Yang Qi, which makes the brain lose its nourishment and the mind unable to be excited;

9. Pale complexion and dizziness are due to the inability of Qi and blood to flow to the clear orifices;

10. A pale and fat tongue with white fur and a weak and slow pulse are all signs of yang deficiency.

Prevention of kidney yang deficiency can be achieved from the following aspects:

1. Practice Tai Chi regularly. It is best to practice Tai Chi in the early morning in a park with fresh air, under a tree, or by the water.

2. Self-massage your waist every day: Rub your palms together until they are warm, then place them on both sides of your waist, with your palms facing the skin, and massage your waist up and down until you feel warm. Once in the morning and once in the evening, about 200 times each time.

3. Rub the soles of your feet every day: After rubbing your palms together to warm them up, rub the sole of your right foot with your left hand and the sole of your left foot with your right hand. Do this once in the morning and once in the evening, rubbing 300 times each time.

4. Do anal contraction exercises every day: relax your whole body and breathe naturally; when exhaling, do anal contraction movements, and relax when inhaling. Repeat about 30 times.

5. Do a set of simple gymnastics every day (if you have time, you can do it several times in a row):

(1) Stand with your feet parallel and shoulder-width apart. Look straight ahead. Let your arms hang naturally, with your palms resting on your trouser seams and your fingers open naturally. Lift your heels and breathe continuously for 9 times.

(2) Place your heels on the ground, inhale, slowly bend your knees and squat down. Gradually turn the backs of your hands forward with the base of your thumb facing your ankles. When your hands are close to the ground, squeeze them into fists with a little force (as if you are grabbing something), and inhale deeply.

(3) Hold your breath, gradually stand up, let your hands hang down, and gradually clench your fists.

(4) Exhale, stand upright, twist your arms outward with your fists facing forward, and squeeze your soft ribs with your elbows from both sides. At the same time, lift your body and heels upward, and tighten your anus, and breathe.
