Eye polyp laser

Eye polyp laser

The human eyes play an important role among the five senses, but at the same time, the eyes are a very fragile place that cannot be invaded by other foreign objects or the occurrence of diseases. The growth of polyps in the eyes is a common eye disease, but it can affect a person's normal vision. Due to the location of eye polyps, special care must be taken when treating them. So can eye polyps be removed using laser?

A wing-shaped attachment grows unnoticed in the corner of the eye, and most patients do not know what the disease is. Medically, this piece of flesh that looks like a small wing is a common and frequently occurring ophthalmic disease and is called pterygium, commonly known as "polyp" among the people.

Pterygium can be divided into 3 parts based on its morphology:

It grows on the black pupil and is the tip of the pterygium, called the head.

The part that spreads out in a fan shape backwards and is slightly raised, located at the junction of the black and white eyeballs, is called the neck.

The wide part that extends to the surface of the white of the eyeball is called the body, on which there are many new blood vessels.

Generally speaking, the diagnosis of pterygium is very simple and can be made just by looking at its appearance. Pterygium is mostly triangular in shape and invades the cornea, with the head facing inward, pointing to the pupil. As the tumor grows larger after invading the cornea, it may even cover the pupil area and seriously affect vision or even cause blindness.

Three major misunderstandings in the treatment of pterygium should be avoided

1. No pain or itching, no treatment required

Pterygium usually has no conscious symptoms, and the disease progresses unconsciously, painlessly, and itchily, gradually and imperceptibly. In addition, if the patient does not have high requirements for aesthetics, he or she is particularly likely to neglect the treatment of the disease. By the time it is taken seriously, it has often affected the visual function and caused the risk of blindness.

2. Wait until the pupil is covered before treatment

The previous concept was that doctors would only recommend surgery when the pterygium grew very large. Little do people know that the timing of choosing surgical treatment for pterygium will affect postoperative vision. The larger the pterygium, the more difficult the surgery, the greater the trauma, and the higher the recurrence rate.

In the following situations, surgical treatment should be considered immediately:

(1) When the pterygium grows 2.5 mm into the corneal limbus;

(2) recurrent congestion and discomfort symptoms;

(3) People who need beauty treatments;

3. The surgery is simple and can be performed anywhere

There is currently no effective drug treatment for pterygium. Most hospitals use simple pterygium resection, which is simple, easy and inexpensive, but has a high recurrence rate and many patients often have to undergo multiple surgeries.

Pterygium excision + limbal stem cell transplantation. This is currently the most advanced technology in China. After continuous optimization, the pterygium can be completely removed during the operation and the corneal surface at the excision site can be made smoother. The stimulation of new blood vessels can be eliminated through the transplantation of autologous tissue. At the same time, drugs to prevent recurrence are used after the operation to ensure "zero recurrence" after pterygium surgery.
