Is it effective to dry the quilt for an hour

It is a good habit to frequently dry quilts in the sun. Quilts that are used for a long time are prone to harbor mites and bacteria, and human sweat and oil are easily retained on them. Skin contact over a long period of time can easily cause inflammation and allergies. Frequent drying of quilts can kill bacteria and remove mites, but many people have no idea about the drying time of quilts. Some people think that the longer the better, while others think an hour or so is enough. So how long is it best to dry a quilt in the sun?

How long is the best time to dry the quilt?

Hang the quilt on the rope with the quilt cover inside, and focus on drying the inside of the quilt. Dry the quilt cover again after 1:00 p.m., and you can put it away at 4:00 p.m. It is best to pat it when putting it away. If it is dirty, it is best to beat it with a stick or something like that. The purpose of drying quilts is to kill bacteria in the quilts with ultraviolet rays. Dry your quilt in the sun often so it will be more comfortable when you sleep.

When drying a quilt, you can cover it with a sheet to avoid direct sunlight, but turn the quilt over in the middle so that both sides can be evenly exposed to the sun. Kapok trees should be exposed to the sun for three to four hours twice a week. Synthetic cotton should be exposed to the sun once a week for two to three hours, which is ideal.

Wool quilts should be dried twice a month in the shade for two hours. The feathers are dried in the shade once a month for thirty minutes in summer and one hour in winter.

Down quilts can also be draped over a chair and placed indoors as long as there is ventilation.

Three changes occur in the quilt after being exposed to the sun: 1. The moisture in the quilt is dried; 2. The microorganisms in the quilt are killed by the ultraviolet rays in the sun; 3. The oxygen in the quilt is excited by ultraviolet rays to become ozone. The final conclusion is that the smell of the sun is the smell of dead microorganisms mixed with the smell of ozone.

The time and method of drying quilts are different for different fabrics and different seasons. Summer is a particularly suitable season for drying quilts because there is more sunshine and the quilts are thin and light.

Do not expose the quilt to the sun for a long time, because the ultraviolet rays of the sun will not only kill bacteria but also oxidize the cellulose fibers, and the warmth retention of the quilt will decrease. Moreover, if it is dried in the sun for a long time, it will easily be invaded by moisture and cold air, which will be counterproductive. The best time to dry the clothes is between 11 am and 2 pm. Because the humidity and coldness are not too strong at this time, one or two hours of sun exposure will be enough.

It is more convenient to dry quilts in summer, but quilts should also be taken out to dry in winter. Generally, the growth cycle of mites is about one month, so the quilt should be aired once every month to reduce the breeding of mites. If you don't dry your quilt for three months, there may be millions of mites on it.

When drying a quilt, turn it over every hour to dry it, but do not pat it because cotton fibers are very easy to break. After beating, the fibers on the quilt will become compacted or broken into cotton dust, and the quilt will gradually become an empty shell.

Do not expose quilts made of chemical fiber fabrics to the sun, as they will release chemicals under high temperatures. When drying, you can cover it with a layer of cotton cloth.

For wool quilts, place them in a cool place to dry for one to two hours once or twice a month. The feather quilt should be dried once a month in a cool and ventilated place. Drying in the sun for thirty minutes in the summer and an hour in the winter is enough.
