What is the difference between bloody sputum and bloody sputum in the morning

There is a difference between sputum with blood streaks and sputum with blood. Many people will find blood in their sputum when they spit in the morning. What is the difference between blood-streaked sputum and blood-stained sputum in the morning? The most direct difference between them is the source. Vomiting blood may be caused by bleeding gums, while blood streaks are often produced in the throat. For example, pharyngitis, tumors, etc. will cause blood streaks. It is very important to find out the cause.

Causes

1. It may be due to the dry climate, which is related to the season.

2. Chronic pharyngitis may also cause blood in the sputum, especially during an attack.

3. Acute and chronic infections of the trachea and bronchi.

4. Rare diseases such as tumors, tuberculosis, bronchiectasis, etc. cannot be ruled out. Bronchiectasis is a disorder in which the muscle and elastic components of the proximal medium-sized bronchial walls are destroyed, resulting in abnormal, irreversible dilation and deformation of the lumen.

5. Other possible diseases include: hypertrophic pharyngitis, actinomycosis, hydatidiform mole, Kartagener syndrome, pulmonary trichomoniasis, etc.

Clinical manifestations

In addition to blood-streaked sputum, the following are manifestations of the primary disease:

1. Hypertrophic pharyngitis

Dryness and itching in the throat, foreign body sensation in the throat, dry cough, sore throat, etc.

2. Actinomycosis

Subcutaneous nodules, edema, abscesses, difficulty opening the mouth, headache, sputum, etc.

3. Pulmonary geotrichum

Cough, sputum, fatigue, chest tightness, itching, headache, abdominal pain, etc.

diagnosis

If the sputum contains blood, be careful to distinguish whether it comes from the nasal cavity, trachea, or oral cavity. Most of the mucus coming from the nasal cavity is exhaled by sucking it back into the mouth. Those coming from the trachea and bronchi are coughed out. When you wake up in the morning, do not cough or sniff your nose. Spit out a mouthful of saliva to see if there is any blood. If so, it means the blood is coming from the mouth. At this time, you can check whether there is bleeding from the teeth and gums. If not, it may come from the nasal cavity or blood vessels. First, you can go to the ENT department to check the nasal cavity and nasopharynx, paying special attention to the nasopharynx, then check the throat to see if there is bleeding, coagulation, or diseases that can cause bleeding, and finally check the lungs, trachea, bronchi, etc.

Differential Diagnosis

Blood in sputum should be differentiated from the following symptoms:

1. Bloody sputum

Bloody sputum means sputum containing blood streaks and blood clots. Bright red blood in sputum is often seen in tuberculosis or bronchiectasis, and sometimes this phenomenon can also occur when there is inflammation in the pharynx.

2. Rotten peach-like bloody sputum

Rotten peach-like bloody sputum is a common clinical manifestation of pulmonary paragonimiasis. Pulmonary paragonimiasis, also known as lung fluke disease, is an acute or chronic endemic parasitic disease caused by Paragonimiasis. The parasites mainly parasitize in the lungs, with cough and peach-colored sputum as the main manifestations. They can also parasitize in various tissues and organs, such as the brain, spinal cord, gastrointestinal tract, abdominal cavity and subcutaneous tissue, causing corresponding symptoms.

3. Coughing up blood and sputum

Most respiratory diseases are accompanied by symptoms of cough and sputum. Sputum can be grayish white mucus or yellow-green purulent sputum. Sometimes the coughed up sputum contains bright red blood, which is called hemoptysis. In medicine, bleeding from the trachea, bronchi or lung tissue below the larynx that is coughed out of the body is called hemoptysis.

treat

Treat the underlying disease that causes blood-stained sputum.

prevention

1. Pay attention to protecting your respiratory system at ordinary times. If any problem occurs, go to a regular hospital for diagnosis and treatment immediately.

2. Preventing and treating acute and chronic respiratory infections such as measles, whooping cough, bronchopneumonia and tuberculosis are of great significance in preventing bronchiectasis. Patients with bronchiectasis should actively prevent respiratory infections, adhere to body position for expectoration, and enhance the body's immune function to improve the body's disease resistance.
