Where should the pillow be placed

Nowadays, the prevalence of cervical spondylosis is getting higher and higher, and the age of patients is getting younger and younger. This is mainly related to people’s living habits, such as incorrect sitting posture, playing with mobile phones with heads down, lack of exercise... These factors that lead to cervical spondylosis are widely known. However, there is another important factor that is easily overlooked, that is sleep. A pillow is a must-have bedding item when we sleep. So, after using pillows for so many years, do you know where the pillow should be placed?

One third of a person's life is spent sleeping. Sleep is as important to humans as pillows are to sleep. Adjusting your pillow to a comfortable position is not only a prerequisite for a good sleep, but also a long-term investment in your health. A comfortable state can help you sleep better, but if you are in an uncomfortable state for a long time, it will cause a series of chronic strains and even develop into cervical spondylosis.

Many people think that a pillow is just a sleeping aid used to support the head and that they just need to put it under the head when sleeping, so they ignore the supporting function of the pillow for the neck.

The most basic function of a pillow is to allow people who have been tired all day to get sufficient rest for their tired neck muscles and ligaments during sleep. This requires the pillow to fit the physiological curvature of the cervical spine closely, which is the most comfortable and relaxing posture for the neck muscles and ligaments. So, what is the role of pillows in preventing cervical spondylosis? What is the correct pillow method?

"Pillow, pillow", in fact, it is not the head that is being pillowed, but the cervical vertebrae. If you sleep on the highest point of the pillow, your cervical vertebra will be suspended in the air and over-flexed. The muscles and ligaments around your neck will be tense, the meridians will be blocked, and the circulation of Qi and blood will be poor. You may experience a stiff neck, dizziness, and fatigue after waking up. If the pillow is placed too low, the head will be outside the pillow, with the lower jaw raised and the neck extended backward, which is not a comfortable position.

The correct position should be that the pillow should be placed under the cervical spine when sleeping, that is, the edge of the pillow should be flush with the shoulders, and then the two corners of the pillow should be pulled forward and placed in front of the shoulders. The purpose is to make the back edge of the pillow full and fit, support the curvature of the neck, so that the head and shoulders are supported by the pillow, thereby reducing the pressure on the cervical spine.

The source of all diseases comes from the blood, and the cause of all illnesses is because of Qi. When Qi and blood flow smoothly, people will be at peace. Be sure not to only place the pillow on the head and ignore the cervical spine. The stiff neck and sore shoulders are waiting for your help.
