How to determine whether a wound is inflamed

Once a wound becomes inflamed, the impact and harm it causes will be relatively large. Therefore, in daily life, no matter what causes the wound, you must pay attention to proper care to avoid inflammation and infection. First of all, you must pay attention to whether there is yellow or green pus or liquid in the wound, because this is the most typical manifestation of wound inflammation and infection. And when checking the wound, you must disinfect your hands.

1. Observe whether the wound is oozing yellow or green pus or liquid. These discharges may smell bad. Pus or foul fluid coming out of a wound is a clear sign of infection. You should seek medical attention as soon as possible.

2. Sometimes, it is normal for some thin, clear fluid to overflow from the wound. However, it is also possible for bacteria to cause a clear fluid other than yellow or green to come out of the wound. If so, your doctor will examine the leaking fluid to determine the cause of the infection.

3. Pay attention to whether there is pus accumulation around the wound. If you notice pus underneath the skin around the wound, it may be infected. [12] An accumulation of pus or a tender, growing lump under the skin that is not leaking pus may also be a sign of infection and should be taken seriously.

4. After checking the wound, bandage it with a new sterilized bandage. If there are no signs of infection, you can cover and protect the wound with a bandage. If there are signs of infection, covering the wound with a sterile bandage until you see a doctor can also protect it from becoming infected again. Be careful to align the non-stick part with the actual wound. The bandage must be large enough to cover the entire wound.

5. If the wound continues to discharge pus, please see a doctor. It is normal to have some discharge from a wound sometimes while the body fights an infection. However, if the pus is yellow or green, is getting more severe, or is not getting better, see your doctor. If there are other signs of infection, you need to see a doctor.
