How to remove the formaldehyde smell from the sofa?

Formaldehyde is everywhere in our daily life. It not only exists in decoration materials, but also in other places. For example, the sofas we buy sometimes contain formaldehyde. There are many ways to remove formaldehyde at present, and different methods have different effects on removing formaldehyde. Sofas are something we often make in our daily lives, so how do we remove the formaldehyde smell from sofas? The following introduces methods to remove the formaldehyde smell from sofas.

How to remove the formaldehyde smell from the sofa?

1. Make hot tea with black tea: Use 300 grams of black tea to make hot tea in two basins of water, put it in the room, and open the windows for ventilation. Within 2 days, the indoor formaldehyde content will drop by more than 90%, and the irritating smell will be basically eliminated.

2. Use activated carbon to remove formaldehyde: Buy 800 grams of granular activated carbon to remove formaldehyde. Divide the activated carbon into 8 portions, put them into plates, and place two to three plates in each room. The indoor odor can be basically removed in 3 days. Do not place leather sofas in direct sunlight. Sunlight radiation will increase the temperature of the leather, causing the oil to volatilize, the humidity to decrease, the elasticity to decrease, and even cracking. It will also cause the colored leather to fade.

3. Open windows to keep the house ventilated.

4. Grow environmentally friendly plants: Green plants can purify the air and absorb harmful gases. Placing green plants in the home bathroom can regulate the air and eliminate odors. It is very necessary to grow more aloe vera, spider plants and ivy. Keeping some environmentally friendly plants at home, such as Milan and green radish, can absorb harmful gases such as benzene and formaldehyde in the air!

5. Use coal: prepare 400 grams of coal ash, divide it into basins and place it in the room where formaldehyde needs to be removed. The formaldehyde content can be reduced to a safe range within a week. The above methods are also applicable to homes that have no odor after renovation. After all, some harmful substances are colorless and odorless. The more clean you keep, the safer you are.

Does the newly bought sofa contain formaldehyde?

1. What is even more terrible is that the existing GB185448-2001 standard for the limit of harmful substances in wooden furniture of interior decoration and renovation materials is only applicable to the detection of wooden furniture made of density board and particle board. There are great limitations in using relevant standards to detect whether harmful substances exceed the standard. As for leather furniture such as leather sofas, the country has not yet formulated corresponding testing standards, which are still blank. For this reason, consumers often complain that the leather sofas in their homes have a strong odor, but it is difficult to detect, treat or obtain compensation.

2. Leather sofas contain formaldehyde. In fact, leather products, especially leather sofas, give people a feeling of nobility and luxury, showing grandeur, but the inherent formaldehyde hazards are actually very serious. It is understood that general leather processing requires tanning, dyeing, spraying and fixing processes, which will inevitably lead to formaldehyde and other pollution. Moreover, formaldehyde is not easy to volatilize after being "wrapped" and may not be completely dissipated in three to five years. For poor quality leather, producers spray the slurry and fixative thicker in order to make the leather look brighter, which results in a higher formaldehyde content and greater harm to the human body.

The smell of formaldehyde on the sofa is not too strong and can usually be removed after drying outdoors for a period of time. However, if it is used continuously, other methods will be needed to repeatedly remove the formaldehyde smell from the sofa. Regarding the question of whether the newly purchased sofa contains formaldehyde, you can refer to the test certificate of the sofa to know the formaldehyde content.
