Acupuncture points for reducing fever

Acupuncture points for reducing fever

When there are some patients with high fever around us, the first thing that everyone thinks of is to use medicine to help the patient reduce fever. In fact, reducing fever is not only about using medicine, but also by massaging some acupoints. Especially for some babies, the side effects of medicine are very large, and it is troublesome for babies to take medicine. Massage is the most convenient and quickest way to reduce fever. So what are the acupoints that can reduce fever?

Which acupoints should be massaged to reduce fever?

Dazhui Point

Dazhui is located in the depression below the spinous process of the 7th cervical vertebra. It is the meeting point of the Governor Vessel and all the yang meridians of the twelve main meridians of the body. It governs all the yang of the body and is a commonly used acupoint for relieving exterior symptoms and reducing fever. At the Dazhui point, use a three-edged needle to prick and bleed, and cupping will have a better effect. You can also massage the Dazhui point in conjunction with pushing the spine, using the tips of your index and middle fingers or the base of your palm to push from the Dazhui point straight down to the coccyx, about 100 to 300 times.

Shixuan acupoint

That is the tips of the ten fingers, a total of 10. The Shixuan acupoint has many uses in emergency treatment and is widely used among the people to treat fever, epilepsy, infantile convulsions, etc. In case of high fever, use a three-edged needle to prick and bleed, 3-5 drops of bleeding is appropriate.

Waiguan acupoint

Waiguan acupoint is one of the eight meridian intersection points and is an important acupoint for relieving exterior symptoms and reducing fever. Using fine needles to prick these three acupoints can lower body temperature. At the same time, use the index and middle fingertips to push upward from the wrist line to the elbow about 300 times.

Quchi and Hegu

Bend your elbow, and the point where the transverse line ends, that is, the depression on the inner edge of the lateral epicondyle of the humerus, is the Quchi point. Hegu, commonly known as the "tiger's mouth", is located in the depression between the first and second metacarpal bones. Quchi and Hegu both belong to the hand yangming large intestine meridian, which can both dispel wind and relieve exterior symptoms, as well as clear and drain Yangming. Waiguan is located two horizontal fingers upward from the midpoint of the transverse line on the back of the wrist.

How to take care of yourself after having a fever

1. Bed rest and psychological care

When the fever is high, the body's metabolism speeds up, eating less consumes more, and the body becomes weak, so you should rest in bed and reduce activity. When patients have a high fever, they are prone to anxiety and fear. We should be considerate and comforting to the patients to eliminate their uneasiness.

2. Cooling

When the body temperature reaches above 39°C, quick and effective cooling measures should be taken.

(1) Physical cooling method: Apply a cold wet towel or an ice-cold dry towel to the forehead. At the same time, use a warm water wet towel or half alcohol and water to rub the neck and limbs from top to bottom. When rubbing to the armpits and groin, rub repeatedly until the skin turns red. The action should not be too heavy. Measure the body temperature again after half an hour. Note: Patients with high fever, shivering or who have just taken antipyretics should avoid using cold compresses or sponge baths.

(2) Drug-induced fever: If the disease is clearly diagnosed, antipyretic drugs can be taken under the guidance of a doctor. If you sweat profusely, drink more sugar and salt water, and change your underwear to prevent catching a cold; if you have symptoms such as pale face, cold and clammy skin, and rapid breathing, these are signs of collapse and you should seek medical attention immediately.

3. Pay close attention to your body temperature

Patients with high fever should have their temperature measured every 4 hours, and pay attention to the patient's complexion, pulse, respiration, blood pressure and sweating. Children with high fever are prone to convulsions and should seek medical attention promptly. After three days when the body temperature returns to normal, the temperature can be reduced to twice a day.

4. Diet care

(1) During the fever period, choose nutritious and easily digestible liquid food, such as soy milk, lotus root powder, fruit puree and vegetable soup.

(2) When the body temperature drops and the condition improves, the patient can switch to a semi-liquid diet, such as noodles and porridge, accompanied by high-protein, high-calorie dishes such as soy products, egg yolks, and a variety of fresh vegetables.

(3) During the recovery period, switch to a normal diet. If the patient has a good appetite, add appropriate amounts of chicken, duck, beef, fish, pork, eggs, milk, beans, etc.

This article introduces 5 acupoints that can quickly reduce fever. Chinese medicine believes that these 5 acupoints can be combined with massage to achieve a more obvious fever-reducing effect. In addition, patients with fever are generally weak, so family care is also very important.
