The dangers of sleeping with wet hair

It is best not to wash your hair before going to bed. Develop good habits, wash your hair after getting up in the morning, and wash your feet with hot water before going to bed at night. Soaking your feet in hot water can help relax the whole body, put your body in a relaxed state, and help you sleep better. If you wash your hair at night, the moisture will enter the body through the pores, causing headaches and migraines. Sometimes it will also cause bacteria to grow on the scalp, which is harmful to your health.

Hazard 1: Easily induce facial paralysis

Facial paralysis, scientifically known as facial nerve paralysis, is a common and frequently occurring disease that is not limited by age. The common symptoms are facial paralysis and eye deviation, and patients are often unable to complete even the most basic movements such as raising eyebrows, closing eyes, and puffing out lips.

Why does washing your hair cause facial paralysis? Doctors believe that the facial nerves are at their most relaxed and have the lowest resistance when you are sleeping at night. If they are stimulated by the cold of wet hair, it can easily affect the facial nerves behind the ears, causing local spasms and inducing facial paralysis. It may not be so obvious in the summer when the weather is warm, but in the winter when the weather is cold, the chance of facial paralysis is very high.

Hazard 2: Causing colds and flu

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that human yang energy is weakest at midnight. After a day of exertion, women are easily physically and mentally exhausted, and their ability to resist cold is also reduced. Therefore, if you wash your hair with hot water before going to bed, the dilated capillaries will be stimulated by external factors, and the yang energy in the head will condense when it encounters cold, causing the body to suffer from cold.

In addition, after washing your hair, a large amount of water will evaporate from your head, taking away a lot of heat from your body. If the immune system is low, heat dissipation will cause the capillaries in the upper respiratory tract to contract and reduce local blood flow.

If the resistance of the upper respiratory tract is reduced, bacteria and viruses may take advantage of the opportunity to enter and cause upper respiratory tract infection and cold symptoms such as runny nose, nasal congestion, headache and even fever. Therefore, if you go to bed with your hair wet, you are more likely to catch a cold.

Hazard 3: Possible headache and dizziness

The main cause of headaches is that moisture remains on the surface of the scalp for a long time, which will cause the scalp temperature to drop and affect the blood circulation in the brain. Therefore, when you sleep in the middle of the night, you may feel numbness in the scalp and a dull pain. In the early morning of the next day, you are more likely to experience unexplained headaches or dizziness, and in severe cases, you may feel nauseous.

If things go on like this for a long time, it may even cause a disease called "subscalp venous plexus inflammation".

Hazard 4: Bacteria grow in pillows

Pillows are kept indoors for a long time and are prone to breeding bacteria. If you go to bed with wet hair, the moisture from the wet hair will penetrate into the pillow core. Over time, the pillow core will naturally turn yellow.

The materials of pillows that people often sleep on are easily susceptible to moisture and mold. A humid environment is more conducive to the growth of bacteria. In this way, the pillow becomes a bacterial incubator, and the harm can be imagined. Although this sounds a bit alarmist, the truth is cruel.

Hazard 5: Damage to hair quality and hairstyle

Sleeping with wet hair is naturally a devastating blow to your hairstyle! When you wake up the next morning, your hair will be a mess, inevitably tangled, and impossible to cut or untangle.

Why? Because when you sleep, your hair will generate friction and compression, and it can easily be bent into various shapes. Once the hair is dry, its softness decreases, and it is fixed, which becomes a big problem that cannot be solved by just combing. Moreover, in this situation, it is more likely to cause hair breakage and damage hair quality during combing. Even more seriously, a lot of hair will fall out. If you lose a lot of hair, be careful of being "extremely smart" and feeling distressed.

In short, don’t take the risk of sleeping with wet hair. If you wash your hair before going to bed, make sure to blow dry it before going to bed no matter how busy you are. The pain of a cold is bad enough, but if you are unlucky enough to have facial paralysis, it is a big deal!
