How to care for fur

How to care for fur

Fur clothing is generally made of animal fur, so it is naturally more expensive than ordinary clothes. Fur is different from ordinary clothes. It needs to be maintained on a regular basis so that the quality of the fur will not be affected. Many people don’t know much about how to maintain fur, and it is very troublesome to deal with if it gets dirty or torn. So, how to maintain fur? Let’s take a look at the methods below.

1. Do not place fur near windows with strong sunlight. It is best to hang it in a place with dim light, low temperature and humidity, and good ventilation. Make sure there are no hot water or steam pipes near where your clothes are stored, and don't forget that fur likes a dry environment.

2. Please hang fur clothing on a special hanger with a high neck and wide shoulders, cover it with a silk cover, and store it in a wardrobe with good air circulation. The high-necked hanger prevents the collar from falling on the shoulders, the broad shoulders keep the garment crisp, and the silk cover provides good ventilation for the fur.

3. It is recommended to give fur space to "breathe". Fur needs a relatively large space to be stored, and there should be at least 6 cm of space between it and other clothes to allow the fur to "breathe" freely. Never put fur in plastic bags or fold it and press it tightly in a suitcase. Without air circulation, the fur will become unevenly dry and the fur will deform or even fall off.

4. Do not allow other chemicals to contaminate the fur. If your home is infested with moths or other insects, do not use insecticides near fur as these can also be harmful to fur. Never store a fur coat in a wardrobe made of cedar. Although cedar can repel insects, the smell that permeates the fur will not be eliminated.

5. In summer, it is best to hand over the fur to a professional fur shop and place it in a cold storage, or in an air-conditioned room at home, to avoid damage from high temperature, humidity and insects.

6. Fur undoubtedly belongs to winter. When wearing fur clothing, please stay away from heat sources, especially heaters, because dry heat will absorb the oil in the fur, making the fur hard and easy to break.

7. Pay special attention when dining in a restaurant. It is best not to leave fur clothing in the check-in area because there is too little space there. You can fold the fur carefully and place it on a chair, and ask the waiter to wrap it with a large cover instead of just hanging it on a hook or rack. Simply put, your fur needs a good place when you eat, but it needs to be away from the table.

8. If you sit in a car or a movie theater for a long time, it is better to take off your fur clothing to avoid damaging it. When folding, make sure the fur side faces outwards.

9. Pay attention to whether the items you carry with you will damage the fur. For example, the straps of a handbag, especially those with metal chains, can wear out the fur. If you often carry a briefcase, be careful not to let the bag come into contact with fur for a long time.

10. There are some details that cannot be ignored, such as not buckling anything on the fur, and paying attention to whether the metal on the watch or bracelet often rubs against the cuffs of the fur clothing.

11. Wearing a silk scarf can prevent the oil and makeup on your skin from staining your collar. If you accidentally leave makeup on your fur, be careful when removing it and it is usually better to take it to a furrier.

12. Never scratch fur with sharp objects, as sharp objects can cause serious damage to fur.

13. Don't spray perfume on fur. The alcohol content in perfume can make the fur hard and brittle, and the oil in it can sometimes give off an unpleasant odor.

14. Don't try to comb your fur with a comb. If the fur on the fur is not smooth, curly, tangled, etc., it is recommended that you send it to a fur shop for processing.

15. Don’t give up wearing fur clothes just because of rainy or snowy weather. If the surface of the fur gets wet, just grab the armpit area of the fur coat, lift it up and shake it a few times to shake off the raindrops on the surface, then hang it in a dry and cool place to dry naturally. Never heat or bake or expose in sunlight. Once dry, pat the fur dry. If it doesn't look as beautiful as it originally was, you can send it to a professional fur shop to be ironed and varnished.
