Whiteness on both sides of the mouth

Whiteness on both sides of the mouth

Oral hygiene is directly related to human health. If you don’t want to suffer from oral diseases, you need to take good care of it. Brushing your teeth in the morning and evening is the most basic health care. Although many people pay attention to their oral hygiene, they find that the sides of their mouths are white or even have white stripes when they wake up in the morning. What causes this? The following will introduce the specific reasons in detail.

What is the cause of the white stripes on the left and right sides of the mouth?

The stripes on both sides are normal bite line areas, but the isolated plaque on the left side cannot rule out the possibility of leukoplakia.

It is considered to be lichen planus, which manifests as heavy white reticular fine lines on the cheek mucosa, and may also have erosions, ulcers, and bullae accompanied by a burning sensation. A histopathological examination is required to confirm the diagnosis, and patients are advised to go to the dental department for examination and treatment in time.

Oral leukoplakia causes

1. The first measure is to remove the irritating factors, such as quitting smoking, abstaining from alcohol, eating less hot and spicy food, etc. Residual roots, residual crowns, and poor restorations should also be removed. It is strictly forbidden to use harsh drugs such as phenols, silver nitrate, etc. to treat white spots.

2. If the damage has not disappeared after confirming that harmful habits such as smoking have been corrected, drug treatment can be considered and further efforts can be made to identify the causative factors.

3. Take vitamin A orally, 50,000 U per day, or retinoic acid 35-50 mg/d. Headache and dizziness may occur when taking it for the first time. The dosage can be reduced as appropriate. Usually, you will adapt after a few days. From the 2nd to 3rd week, gradually increase the dosage to 30-60 mg per day, divided into 3 doses. The course of treatment is about 1 to 2 months. Common side effects include dry lips and hair loss. It is contraindicated for patients with coronary heart disease, abnormal liver and kidney function and hyperlipidemia.

0.2% retinoic acid solution is suitable for topical application, but not for lesions accompanied by congestion and erosion. When applying, wipe off the saliva first, dip a small amount of solution with the finest brush and apply it along the white area. Be careful not to apply on the lipstick mucosa. Ointment preparations are not suitable because they cannot adhere to the lubricated mucosa inside the mouth. The new preparations of isotretinoin and arotinoid have basically the same effects as retinoic acid. Their main advantages are small dosage (0.5 mg per kilogram per day), low toxicity, and few side effects (dry lips and hair loss), but they are teratogenic.

4. You can use cod liver oil to rub the white spots for a long time, 2 to 3 times a day, and one to two months as a course of treatment, but do not use too much force. You can also take cod liver oil orally, or take 50,000 U of vitamin A. Close follow-up is required during conservative treatment.

5. For those who fail to heal for a long time or do not disappear after treatment, if cracks, ulcers, or hardening of the base and significant surface thickening are found in the white spot area, or if the lesions have been proven to have precancerous changes, surgical resection should be performed as soon as possible.

What are the daily oral care methods?

1. Diet and tooth protection

Eggs, fruits, vegetables, pork rib soup, etc. are rich in protein, minerals, vitamins, etc. Regular consumption is good for strong teeth. If the human body does not take in enough protein, it is prone to dental caries. In addition, you should pay attention to protecting your teeth when eating, such as avoiding eating too much spicy and sour food to prevent the tooth enamel from being eroded and damaged.

2. Massage your gums

Use your thumb and index finger to massage the gums in a certain direction for 10 minutes each time. This can promote blood circulation in the gums, alveoli and dental pulp and prevent premature atrophy of the gums.

3. Chew properly

The correct way to chew is to use the teeth on both sides alternately. If you frequently chew on one side, the unused side will lack physiological stimulation, which may lead to employment atrophy of tissues. On the other hand, the side that you usually chew on will be overloaded, which may cause pulpitis and cause an irregular facial appearance, affecting your appearance.

4. Bite hard

Every time you urinate, you bite your teeth hard, and you must do this without interruption. This can promote the metabolism of oral mucosa and blood circulation of gums, exercise chewing muscles and enhance the function of teeth.

If you want to keep oral diseases away from yourself, you must know the daily care methods and brush your teeth correctly. In terms of diet, you should avoid spicy and hot foods to reduce the occurrence of oral diseases. Staying up late and smoking less can also effectively prevent the occurrence of periodontal diseases. As long as you take care of these details, you will definitely have a healthy oral cavity.
