What's wrong with the deformed and sunken nails

Under normal circumstances, human nails are smooth and arc-shaped. If the nails become uneven, it means that there may be a problem with your health. It is best for everyone to pay attention to it. There are many reasons for the deformation and depression of nails. Most of these cases are caused by a lack of trace elements. It is best to go to the hospital for a check-up to see what is missing from the body and then treat it symptomatically.

What causes pitted nails?

Patients must pay attention to nails that are flat, concave, spoon-shaped, brittle and dull, which are signs of insufficient liver water or iron deficiency anemia, hypochromic anemia and light-colored microcytic anemia. The nails are parrot-beak shaped, and the fingertips are like drumsticks. They are often seen in congenital heart disease with cyanosis, rheumatic heart and chronic heart failure, lung abscess, emphysema, silicosis, chronic fibrous cavitary tuberculosis, chronic ulcerative colitis, etc.

Patients must understand that the appearance of horizontal lines on the nails is a precursor to kidney disease or myocardial infarction, the appearance of vertical lines indicates a lack of vitamin A and is a precursor to liver disease, and the appearance of sunken pits indicates poor respiratory function. Graying of the nails is a sign of onychomycosis. Initially, the area around the nails will itch, and then the nails will become deformed, lose their luster, and turn grayish white. Bluish nails with small red thorns are caused by lack of oxygen, indicating heart and lung problems. Half red and half white nails indicate poor kidney function.

Patients must know that white nails are an acute condition caused by blood loss and shock; chronic conditions include anemia, hookworm and gastrointestinal bleeding, late-stage tuberculosis, cor pulmonale, etc.; if the nails are as white as frosted glass, it is a characteristic of liver cirrhosis; whitening, thinning and softening of nails are more common in chronic wasting disease; yellowing of nails is caused by a lack of vitamin E. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that it is mostly caused by damp-heat fumigation, and is seen in hypothyroidism, carotenemia, nephrotic syndrome, etc.

Note:

Patients must go to a large hospital to receive formal treatment and do a comprehensive examination. Patients must actively cooperate with the doctor's treatment. In daily life, they must pay attention to personal hygiene, relax, pay attention to rest, don't be too nervous, try not to eat spicy and irritating foods, you can eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, and be sure to drink plenty of water.
