What are the causes of foot odor?

When the weather is hot, many people are prone to a common problem, which is foot odor. Generally, after having the problem of foot odor, everyone may encounter some sweat smell on the feet. This is because of sweating for a long time, coupled with the breeding of more bacteria, so the odor will appear.

reason:

The main cause of foot odor is foot sweat. Sweat itself has no odor, but it provides a breeding ground for certain bacteria, which produce some unpleasant smelling substances. These bacteria occur naturally on our skin as part of the natural human flora. The front part of the foot produces the most sweat. Therefore, some factors that cause excessive sweating, such as wearing non-breathable shoes for a long time, can cause localized excessive sweating. Socks themselves usually do not cause foot odor, but when wearing shoes, socks tend to capture hair on the feet, especially the hair on the toes, which can increase the surface area for bacteria to grow, thereby aggravating foot odor.

If the socks are in direct contact with the feet, the composition of the socks will have an impact on athlete's foot. Polyester and nylon socks are common industrial synthetic socks. Wearing polyester or nylon socks can increase sweating, which can make athlete's foot worse because they are not as breathable as cotton socks. Socks help absorb sweat, but shoes are not washed as often as socks. If you don't wear socks, sweat will easily accumulate in the shoes, and bacteria will breed over time. Closed shoes do allow enough air to circulate, thus promoting bacterial growth, especially around the toes where sweat accumulates most, and the sweat cannot evaporate and there are no socks to absorb the sweat. Over time, dead skin, dirt, and oil can also accumulate inside shoes, causing foot odor to worsen.

If you don't wear socks, fungus or mold can easily grow, which can make foot odor worse. If closed shoes (such as flats or high heels) cannot be worn with socks, the best solution is to take off the shoes from time to time when the feet start to feel hot or sweaty, so that the sweat on the shoes and feet can evaporate. Foot powder can reduce moisture and odor.
