What are the hazards of scale

What are the hazards of scale

It is actually very easy for scale to hide in water dispensers or water pipes, especially if they are used for a long time and not cleaned properly. The accumulation of scale will also have an impact on human health. Because they contain heavy metal ions, they will enter the stomach and react with hydrochloric acid if consumed for a long time, causing stomach bloating and discomfort.

1. Hazards

Hard scale is usually cemented to the surface of containers or pipes. First, hard scale has poor thermal conductivity, which will lead to deterioration of heat transfer on the heating surface, thereby wasting fuel or electricity. Secondly, if hard scale is bonded to the inner wall of the water heater or boiler, it will greatly increase the risk of rupture or even explosion of the water heater or boiler due to thermal expansion and contraction and uneven force. Secondly, when hard scale is cemented, a large amount of heavy metal ions are often attached to it. If the container is used to hold drinking water, there is a risk of excessive heavy metal ions dissolving in the drinking water. Therefore, the harm of hard scale is obvious.

When scale fragments enter the stomach and react with hydrochloric acid, they release calcium, magnesium ions and carbon dioxide. The former is a necessary substance for the formation of stones. The latter will cause bloating and discomfort, and patients with gastric ulcers may also be at risk of gastric perforation.

2. Elimination Method

① To remove scale by boiling sweet potatoes (sweet potatoes, yams) in a kettle, put more than half a kettle of sweet potatoes, fill it with water, and cook the potatoes. Next time you boil water, scale will not accumulate. But be careful not to scrub the inner wall of the kettle after boiling sweet potatoes, otherwise the descaling effect will be lost. For old kettles that are full of scale, after boiling them once or twice using the above method, not only will the original scale gradually fall off, but it will also prevent scale from accumulating again.

② Use baking soda to remove scale. When boiling water in an aluminum kettle with scale, add 1 teaspoon of baking soda and boil it for a few minutes to remove the scale.

③Boil eggs to remove scale. The scale on the kettle that boils water will become hard and difficult to remove after being used for a long time. If you use it to boil eggs twice, you will get the desired effect.

④ Use potato peels to remove scale. After using an aluminum kettle or aluminum pot for a period of time, a thin layer of scale will form. Put the potato peels in it, add appropriate amount of water, bring to a boil, and cook for about 10 minutes before removing them.

⑤ Remove scale due to thermal expansion and contraction. Place the empty kettle on the stove and dry the moisture in the scale. When cracks appear on the bottom of the kettle or a "bang" sound is heard at the bottom of the kettle, remove the kettle and quickly pour in cold water. Or wrap the handle and spout with a rag, hold it with both hands, and quickly place the dried kettle in cold water (do not let water flow into the kettle). Repeat 2 to 3 times and the scale on the bottom of the pot will fall off due to thermal expansion and contraction.

⑥ Use lemon to remove scale. Put lemon slices into the kettle (the thinner the better, the purpose is to release as much citric acid as possible) and boil the water for about 5 minutes. After boiling, let the lemon soak in the water for 2 minutes to remove scale.

⑦ Remove scale with vinegar. If there is scale in the kettle, put a few spoons of vinegar into the water and boil it for one or two hours, and the scale will be removed. If the main component of scale is calcium sulfate, you can pour pure alkaline solution into the kettle and boil it to remove the scale.
