Can mild myopia be corrected?

Can mild myopia be corrected?

Patients with mild myopia still have the possibility of successful correction as long as they receive the correct treatment, especially children who are still in the growth and development stage, the chance of recovery can be further increased, but they must persist in treatment. Some children even need several surgical correction treatments to restore their vision to normal. Otherwise, they can only wear myopia glasses for a long time.

Treatment principles

1. Children and adolescents need to undergo mydriasis refraction to rule out pseudomyopia and wear appropriate concave spherical lenses for correction.

2. In addition to eye examination and glasses fitting, high myopia can also be corrected with contact lenses.

3. Patients with high myopia and fundus lesions should be treated with medication and, if necessary, posterior scleral reinforcement surgery.

4. Radial keratotomy or laser refractive surgery may be considered for patients over 20 years old without contraindications.

Medication principles

1. To prevent myopia or treat pseudomyopia, use tropicamide eye drops, apply to both eyes every night before going to bed.

2. Before mydriasis refraction for children under 15 years old, apply tropicamide eye drops once every 10 minutes, 6 to 8 times within 2 hours.

3. When children under 7 years old, especially those with strabismic refractive errors, undergo mydriasis eye examination, 1% atropine eye drops or eye ointment is generally used to fully paralyze the ciliary muscles, so that the eye examination is accurate.

4. For young people and a few adults, tropicamide eye drops can be used for mydriasis optometry.

Preoperative examination contents of excimer laser treatment for myopia

1. Measure visual acuity with naked eyes.

The naked eye vision is determined by the light-repelling ability, transparency and axial length of the lens of the eye. In most cases, the vision we measure is the naked eye vision. Measuring visual acuity with the naked eye is a very important examination item before laser myopia surgery, because for patients with extremely high myopia, the vision after surgery may not be as good as that with contact lenses. At the same time, the dominant eye is determined to accurately improve the postoperative visual quality.

2. Wear glasses to measure your vision.

Doctors perform this examination to consider whether the myopic patient has other eye diseases that may cause myopia, such as astigmatism, amblyopia, and cataracts.

3. Computer optometry.

4. Measure intraocular pressure.

Glaucoma is caused by high intraocular pressure in patients, so this examination is also very important.
