What is the reason for black stool

If a person suddenly finds that his stool is black, he will generally feel very strange, because this situation rarely occurs. If he has eaten some black food recently, it is relatively easy to understand, but if not, there may be other reasons. He needs to go to the hospital for a comprehensive examination of his gastrointestinal tract and even the whole body to prevent the disease from worsening. So what are the reasons for black stool?

If you find yourself having black stools, you must be alert. In most cases, there is something wrong with our stomach and intestines. Today I will share the reasons why we have black stools, I hope it will be helpful to everyone.

1 If you occasionally find that your stool is black, but it is normal and your stomach and abdomen do not hurt, it may be because you have eaten pigmented foods, such as blood products, taken certain medicines, eaten foods high in melanin, or have gastrointestinal bleeding.

2 If you don’t eat foods containing pigments, you should consider whether you have taken any medications recently, such as Chinese medicine. Some medications can also cause us to have black stools or green urine.

3. Also, check whether you have any internal injuries, whether your stomach or abdomen has been hit, and whether your nose is bleeding. If the nosebleed enters the stomach, it may also cause black stools.

4 If you have ruled out the first few reasons, and find that you have anemia symptoms such as fatigue and dizziness, you should be able to confirm that black stools are caused by gastrointestinal bleeding. When the upper gastrointestinal tract such as the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, upper jejunum, pancreas and bile duct bleeds, the iron in hemoglobin in red blood cells combines with sulfide to form iron sulfide under the action of intestinal bacteria, making the stool appear black. This type of black stool is shiny and black, and its appearance is like tar, so it is also called tarry stool. Passing tarry stools is a sign of upper gastrointestinal bleeding.

5 After ruling these out, you should consider going to the hospital for a gastrointestinal examination. Usually, a gastroscopy will be done. Many people are afraid when talking about gastroscopy, but it can actually be painless.

6 In addition, there is now a test called barium meal, which is painless, does not require anesthesia, and does not harm the stomach and intestines.

7 The general results are gastric ulcers, chronic gastritis, enteritis, etc. These can be cured, so don't worry too much.

Note: Remember not to take medicine randomly. If you want to rule out the possibility that the black stool is not caused by food, you should go to the hospital for examination in time.
