What is the cause of bleeding from the mouth and nose

When we watch TV, especially ancient martial arts movies, we will hear a line: You will bleed to death from all seven orifices. The seven orifices refer to our two eyes, two nostrils, two ears, and one mouth. In daily life, due to irregular eating habits or unstable sleeping hours, we may also experience sudden bleeding. Of course, we won’t experience such a serious situation as bleeding from all seven orifices, but bleeding from the mouth and nose is still possible. Why is this?

Many patients with blood diseases, especially those with long-term low blood counts, may have varying degrees of spontaneous bleeding symptoms, such as skin purpura, bruises, oral bleeding, mucosal bleeding, nasal bleeding, internal bleeding, intracranial bleeding... For common oral and nasal bleeding, how should patients with blood diseases deal with and stop the bleeding? The relevant analysis is given below.

1. Bleeding gums

This is a very common bleeding phenomenon. On the bright side, it is a minor problem and is not likely to attract attention. Many patients with blood diseases find that their gums bleed for no reason when they are brushing their teeth or eating. This may occur intermittently or continuously during the day and night. For patients with blood diseases who often have gingival bleeding, the more severe the bleeding is, and the longer the bleeding lasts, the more attention should be paid to it. The cause of gingival bleeding should be actively sought and supportive maintenance treatment should be given!

In addition, it depends on what kind of blood disease it is. For example, if it is thrombocytopenia that often causes gum bleeding, aplastic anemia, acute leukemia and other diseases, if there is a primary disease, the problem of primary bone marrow hematopoietic suppression needs to be solved. The second is to take hemostatic measures for bleeding gums. It is mainly treated locally, using cold water bags or wet towels to apply acupressure to the forehead and back of the neck, or using vasoconstrictors.

2. Nose bleeding

There are many reasons for nose bleeding, which can be listed in a basket. The most common ones are dry nasal mucosa, capillary dilation, nasal inflammation, hypertension, arteriosclerosis, etc. In terms of blood diseases, thrombocytopenic purpura and aplastic anemia can also easily cause nose bleeding. Some children with blood diseases like to pick their noses, causing traumatic nasal bleeding.

When nose bleeding occurs, patients with blood diseases should pay attention to their diet and avoid eating irritating foods, follow up with routine blood tests, take hemostatic measures such as packing and compressing the bleeding area, use short-term hemostatic drugs, and control the indications.

Many patients with blood diseases who often bleed will accumulate their own experience and folk remedies to stop bleeding. If the patient is not suitable for Western medicine hemostatic treatment, he may try Chinese medicine hemostatic methods. Whether it is bleeding gums, nasal bleeding, or oral mucosal blood blisters, there is one characteristic in the bleeding site, that is, bleeding in the upper body.

Bleeding in the upper body represents the classic understanding of traditional Chinese medicine: "Heat can easily lead to bleeding disorders, because the nature of fire is to burn upwards, excessive heat can cause bleeding, and hot blood can cause blood to flow recklessly." This means that the nature of fire is to extend upwards, because heat moves upwards and rushes upwards. If the fire is intense, bleeding gums, nasal bleeding, oral blood blisters, etc. can easily occur.
