My tongue feels uncomfortable as if it's burned

If you want to taste a variety of delicious food, you need a sense of taste. The tongue is an important part of the sense of taste. The tongue is soft and flexible. It can help us taste the different flavors of food, assist in swallowing and help us pronounce. Without the tongue, we would not be able to speak clearly. We eat a variety of foods every day, so our tongue also comes into contact with a variety of foods, which may cause problems in the long run. Some people feel discomfort on their tongue, as if it is burned. Why is this?

It may be caused by glossitis. Glossitis refers to a chronic, nonspecific inflammation of the tongue. The tongue is a special part of the human body. Changes in tongue quality and tongue coating can often reflect changes in internal organ function. The main symptoms of glossitis are redness and smoothness of the tongue surface. Glossitis is also an oral complication of some systemic diseases, and is more common in patients with anemia, riboflavin deficiency, malabsorption syndrome, heart failure, and menopausal syndrome in women.

Clinical manifestations

1. This disease often occurs in the front part of the tongue, especially the tip and edge of the tongue, and is particularly obvious in the front half of the tongue. Feeling of numbness, burning pain, pain when eating, etc. Sometimes symptoms such as dry mouth may occur due to decreased saliva. The course of the disease is protracted, with remission and exacerbation alternating.

2. At the beginning, there are several smooth small spots like red glaze on the tongue, or most of the tongue surface is like beef, purple-red and smooth. These lesions or normal tongue surfaces are often accompanied by superficial ulcers or recurrent follicular stomatitis. In female patients, similar changes may occur in the vagina.

3. The filiform papillae of the tongue may atrophy, become thinner or disappear, so the surface of the tongue appears fiery red with shallow fissures. In the early stage of atrophy of the filiform papillae, the fungiform papillae swell and appear more prominent, and then gradually atrophy in the later stage, eventually becoming a "smooth tongue".

4. Accompanied by atrophic glossitis, it is often a prominent symptom of critical illness and can also be a manifestation of death.

5. If glossitis is accompanied by erosions at the corners of the mouth, chapped or red lips, dry and desquamated skin, and scrotitis, it indicates riboflavin deficiency.

6. In pernicious anemia, tongue atrophy may be accompanied by painful, purple-red, chronically eroded patches, in which the filiform papillae disappear or become thinner, while the fungiform papillae swell and are sensitive to irritating foods, which is called Hunter glossitis. This type of erosion mainly occurs on the tip, edge and surface of the tongue, and occasionally on the lips, cheeks and palate mucosa.

Causes

There are many causes of glossitis, the most common of which are systemic factors, such as malnutrition, vitamin deficiency, endocrine disorders, menstrual cycle effects, anemia, fungal infections, and abuse of antibiotics. Bureau

Common internal factors include sharp tooth tips, dental calculus, poor restorations and eating irritating foods. In recent years, the widespread use or abuse of antibiotics has caused the imbalance of normal intestinal flora, leading to insufficient riboflavin production, and the disease is not uncommon.
