How to wash silk fabrics?

In daily life, clothes made of silk fabrics are a must. Especially for women's clothes, there are many types of silk fabrics, and they are very comfortable to wear. In addition to clothes, many quilts are also made of silk, which is much better than cotton. However, items made of silk also have a major drawback, which is that they are not easy to wash. So, how to wash silk fabrics?

1. Detergent selection:

Generally, chemical detergents are not suitable for silk fabrics. If they are underwear or contain dirty stains, it is recommended to use neutral shower gel for washing. If soap and other detergents must be used, be sure to choose neutral high-grade soap flakes and high-grade synthetic detergents. Do not use alkaline detergents! Alkalinity is the number one killer of silk, which will cause silk to become hard, brittle, yellow, fade, etc.

2. Scrubbing method:

Silk fabrics are different from pure cotton and chemical fiber fabrics. Any silk fabric cannot be machine washed. When washing at home, it must be washed by hand and not rubbed hard. Usually, "lift and wash" or "rinse" should be used. If there is a particularly dirty place, you can use a soft towel dipped in detergent to gently wipe it, and avoid rubbing!

3. Water temperature control:

High water temperature is the second killer of silk fabrics, so when washing, never use hot water to soak, you must use cold water at room temperature, and do not soak for a long time! Otherwise, it will cause the silk to turn yellow or fade. If you use hot water and soak for a long time, in serious cases, it will even dye the whole basin of water!

4. The magical effect of vinegar:

As mentioned before, alkalinity is the number one killer of silk, while acidity can protect silk very well. In the final washing, if you can add a small amount of vinegar (usually a small spoonful) to the water, it can not only prevent the hardening of silk, but also solidify the dye, making the color of the clothes brighter!

5. Final drying:

Silk has poor light resistance and will turn yellow and harden if it absorbs ultraviolet rays for a long time. Therefore, when drying clothes, you must avoid direct sunlight and place the clothes in a cool place with the reverse side facing outwards. When they are 80% to 90% dry, take them down and iron them with a medium or low temperature iron to keep the clothes shiny and durable. When ironing, avoid spraying water and avoid ironing the front to avoid water stains.
