Are there any taboos in growing hibiscus at home?

Hibiscus is a very beautiful plant. We can see hibiscus everywhere, for example, on both sides of the road, in parks, or in some indoor exhibitions. Many people who like hibiscus want to grow it at home. In fact, although hibiscus is beautiful, it is best not to grow it at home or in the yard. There are some taboos in growing hibiscus.

Precautions for Hibiscus cultivation

Hibiscus is a positive tree species, so it needs to be managed with caution after autumn. It is important to apply less fertilizer in the later period to avoid the growth of autumn shoots. The autumn shoots are young and tender, with weak resistance to cold, and will be damaged by frost in cold weather. Bring the hibiscus indoors in time: Hibiscus cannot tolerate frost and must be moved indoors to keep warm after the frost falls and before the beginning of winter.

The wintering temperature should not be lower than 5℃ to avoid frost damage; and not higher than 15℃ to avoid affecting dormancy. If dormancy is not good, growth and flowering will not be vigorous the following year. Any south-facing furniture house with good insulation conditions can overwinter. When the weather is cold, it can be covered with paper or plastic film to keep warm. When moving indoors for the first time, open the windows for ventilation during the day, pay attention to the changes in the wetness of the potting soil, and water appropriately. On the coldest days, watering can help prevent frost damage, but fertilizing should be stopped.

Hibiscus

The flowerpot should be breathable enough. When choosing a flowerpot for hibiscus, you should choose a unglazed plate or a wooden barrel plate with good air permeability. For nutrients, do not apply a single fertilizer. You should provide complete nutrients. The best light is 8 sun baths a day.

Move it outdoors in early May and place it in a sunny place. This is also the growing season for hibiscus, so you need to strengthen management work such as fertilizing, watering, loosening the soil, and weeding. Apply thin liquid fertilizer every 7-10 days, and watering should depend on the dryness or wetness of the soil in the pot. Too dry or too wet will affect flowering.

Why can't Fusang be raised at home? Is it feudal superstition?

Hibiscus is beautiful and harmless to the human body, but why do many people on the Internet say that it is unlucky to keep hibiscus at home? After checking, the editor found that there is only one reason why Fusang cannot be raised at home, that is, its name is unlucky. There are two explanations for this:

1. Hibiscus, "桑" (mulberry) and "丧" (sang) have the same pronunciation, so many people think it is a mourning flower. With this explanation, naturally people dare not grow it at home.

2. The first two characters of the hibiscus flower are "Fusang". Japan is also called "Fusang". With these two characters combined, people believe that it is unlucky to keep hibiscus at home.
