The correct way to brush your teeth with braces

Straight and white teeth make our smile look more attractive. So how do we deal with crooked teeth? The answer is to wear braces. Wearing braces is both safe and effective. The disadvantage is that it takes a long time, and some may even require three years. There are many things to pay attention to when wearing braces. In addition to not eating irritating foods, it is important to brush your teeth correctly. Because the outer cover is uneven and has many gaps, you must brush your teeth frequently and thoroughly. So how do you brush your teeth correctly when wearing braces?

The correct way to brush your teeth with braces:

1. Brush your teeth horizontally

Because there are two rows of steel wires on the teeth, if you brush your teeth like normal teeth, you will not be able to brush them cleanly. Therefore, it is recommended to use the horizontal brushing method. Place the toothbrush between the steel wires and the gums and gently brush in a small range. The distance should not be too long to avoid damaging the surface of the teeth. It should be emphasized that the best posture is to keep the toothbrush and teeth at an inclination of about 45 degrees.

2. Use a special toothbrush

There are super small toothbrushes on the market, which can be used to brush places that you cannot reach. Rinse your mouth with water before brushing your teeth to clean out impurities and then brush your teeth. This can also avoid damage to the surface of the teeth, so that you can have complete teeth without damaging the already protected teeth, and better correct your incomplete teeth.

3. Notes

While wearing braces, you must avoid eating raw foods. When brushing your teeth, try to move slowly and use a thinner toothbrush. Although brushing your teeth in time is good, friends who wear braces should try to reduce the number of times they brush their teeth, as this may damage the teeth that have already been treated on the surface, and the braces will be ineffective.

2. Precautions during wearing braces

Don't worry too much: each time you adjust the strength of the braces, your teeth will feel sore, weak, or even painful 3-5 days after the adjustment. Some patients may experience this for a week. This is normal. However, if the pain becomes more severe or worsens after a week, you should contact your doctor.

Dietary restrictions: You cannot chew hard or sticky objects directly, such as bones or apples, while wearing braces. Apples need to be cut into slices before eating. Because these things can easily bite off the brackets, resulting in prolonged correction practice and poor correction results.

Pay attention to brushing your teeth: Teeth hygiene needs to be maintained during the period of wearing braces. Brush your teeth in the morning and evening, rinse your mouth after meals, drink plenty of water, and brush your teeth regularly.

Maintain a balanced nutrition: Because diet is restricted while wearing braces, many people will experience nutritional imbalance. The physical properties of the food can be changed, such as squeezing it into juice, tearing the meat into pieces and eating it, to ensure the intake of nutrients.

Use of protective wax: Braces come into contact with the oral mucosa and may cause oral ulcers. In this case, protective wax can be used to reduce the occurrence of ulcers. If you already have ulcers, you can use various ulcer topical patches or mouthwash, which will usually heal on their own within 7-10 days.
