Soaking your feet in white vinegar to treat Achilles tendinitis

Achilles tendonitis is a sterile inflammation, and the causes of the disease are closely related to the sudden increase in physical activity. At the same time, strain, minor contusions or tears are common causes of injury. Achilles tendonitis in the foot has a great impact on the patient's normal life. In order to recover as soon as possible, some patients will use white vinegar to soak their feet for treatment. So, how effective is soaking your feet in white vinegar to treat Achilles tendonitis? Let’s take a closer look below.

Vinegar mixed with hot water does have the effect of activating blood circulation. It is indeed effective for mild tenosynovitis or Achilles tendonitis. Generally, just add 50 ml of water each time. If the symptoms do not improve after ten days of conservative treatment, it is recommended that you go to the orthopedic clinic of the hospital for treatment. You can be treated with a blocking injection or a small needle knife.

1. Self-help methods

(1) Warm up before exercise, stop exercise gradually, and do appropriate relaxation activities after exercise.

(2) Get enough rest, avoid heavy loads, and exercise properly.

(3) Wear appropriate shoes when exercising. Choose shoes that are appropriate for the frequency, surface, and conditions of your exercise.

(4) Regularly stretch and strengthen the calf muscles, and gradually add mountain climbing and stair climbing to your daily exercise. Gradually increase speed and distance if necessary.

2. Use support pads

The support pad can elevate the ankle to reduce stretch on the Achilles tendon. A splint may also be used during sleep to keep the Achilles tendon immobilized. If the condition is severe, a walking boot or crutches may be recommended to help the Achilles tendon heal.

3. Surgery

Nonsurgical treatment, including physical therapy, allows Achilles tendinitis to heal and repair itself within a few weeks. If treatment is not effective, surgery may be needed to remove the inflamed tissue around the Achilles tendon.

4. Topical medications

Choose anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs for external application.

Active prevention

1. Before exercising, do warm-up and stretching exercises. When the tendons and bones are activated and the calf muscles are too tight or too tired, the impact force generated by the exercise will be transmitted to the Achilles tendon, which may cause Achilles tendonitis.

2. Increase strength: Heavy-load calf exercises can allow the Achilles tendon to withstand greater forces.

Physical Strengthening: Plyometric exercises improve the mobility of the muscles, tendons, and ligaments in the calf and ankle joints.

Stretching exercises: Calf stretches can improve tendon flexibility.

Balance: Do some exercises to improve your balance and exercise your body sensitivity.

3. Choose suitable shoes. If the shoes are too big, people tend to bend their toes and grab the soles of the shoes. This action will overuse the plantar fascia and related tissues, causing local tendon strain and Achilles tendonitis.

4. Increasing running distance too quickly and training too much will bring greater impact to the Achilles tendon. When doing physical exercise, you must proceed step by step and slowly increase the amount.

5. A walking or running surface that is too hard or running shoes that are too hard may cause Achilles tendon inflammation. Adding a layer of padding inside the heel helps relieve tension on the Achilles tendon.
