How to remove scale from a kettle

How to remove scale from a kettle

Nowadays, one of the electrical appliances that people have in their homes is the electric kettle. Because it can boil water quickly and save time and electricity, it is one of the most popular household appliances. With long-term use, any electrical appliance will have various scales, and electric kettles will produce scale. So how do you remove the scale in the kettle? Please see the methods introduced below.

1. Descaling with vinegar

This method is the simplest and most practical method. As we all know, the main component of scale is carbonate such as calcium carbonate. The acetic acid in vinegar will react with it to produce water-soluble minerals and carbon dioxide gas. White vinegar can be bought in general supermarkets. Put 10% of white vinegar into the kettle scale, then fill it with water, boil it and let it sit for about an hour, then brush it. Aged vinegar can also be used, but the effect of aged vinegar is not as good as white vinegar.

2. Descaling the electric kettle by boiling sweet potatoes

Put more than half of the new electric kettle with sweet potatoes, fill it with water, and cook the sweet potatoes. Next time you boil water, there will be no scale accumulation. But be careful not to scrub the inner wall of the kettle after boiling sweet potatoes, otherwise the descaling effect will be lost. For old kettles that are full of scale, after boiling them once or twice using the above method, not only will the original scale gradually fall off, but it will also prevent scale from accumulating again.

3. Baking soda to remove scale

When boiling water in an electric kettle, scale is easily formed. Generally, we can add 1 teaspoon of baking soda, boil it for a few minutes, and the scale will be removed. Alternatively, you can pour in about 500 grams of 1% baking soda water, shake it gently, and the scale can be removed.

4. Boil eggs to remove scale

Generally, electric kettles will accumulate hard and difficult-to-remove scale after being used for a long time. If you use it to boil eggs twice, you will get the desired effect. Crush two egg shells slightly, put them in a bottle, then fill half a pot of water, stir with a blender or spoon, then boil it, let it sit for about half an hour, pour out the egg shells, and rinse it twice with clean water.

Note:

1. To remove scale from water appliances, you must use food-grade descaling agents, because industrial-grade descaling agents contain impurities and are even toxic, which is harmful to the human body if consumed;

2. To remove scale from water appliances, strong acid must be used, which is corrosive and harmful to both appliances and the human body.

The main components of scale

Most compounds of calcium and magnesium ions (such as calcium carbonate and calcium chloride) are insoluble in water, while most compounds of sodium (such as sodium carbonate and sodium chloride) are easily soluble in water. Water contains calcium, magnesium ions, as well as carbonate, hydroxycarbonate, sulfate, etc. When the water reaches a certain temperature, the calcium and magnesium ions in it combine with acid radicals to produce calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, calcium sulfate, etc., which precipitate and form scale. Generally, water contains more calcium ions, so the main component of scale is generally calcium salt.
