What to do if you have a sore throat after chemotherapy

For patients with different types of cancer, although some of the same adverse reactions will occur after chemotherapy, some types of cancer will cause particularly serious adverse reactions in some organs. For example, throat pain is more prominent in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma after chemotherapy. In this case, the patient's family can use some methods to help the patient reduce or relieve throat pain.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is one of the most serious malignant tumors. In daily life, few people may have heard of this cancer. Not long ago, when I was taking a walk in the community, I met a patient who had suffered from nasopharyngeal carcinoma. His mentality was very good, he dared to face it, and actively accepted treatment. He underwent surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and traditional Chinese medicine treatment. It seems that he is in good spirits now. He said that his throat just hurts a little after chemotherapy? What should I do if I have a sore throat after chemotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma?

Dry mouth and sore throat are common side effects after chemotherapy. What should you do if you have a stink? First of all, you should eat moister food, drink more water, and eat more fruits and cold drinks. When you have a sore throat, you can moisten the dry food in tea, milk, or coffee before swallowing it to make the food moist and soft before swallowing.

To minimize irritation to the throat, mix meals and food together to make them easier to swallow. If your throat hurts significantly, you can temporarily use a straw to make swallowing more comfortable. Consider eating more soft, cool foods, such as ice cream, popsicles, watermelon, grapes or jelly.

If you have ulcers in your mouth, you can eat some raw pears, honey and soy milk. Don't add too many seasonings to food, especially use less salt. If you are a smoker, you should reduce or temporarily stop smoking to reduce the irritation of smoke to your throat. If your throat is very sore, you can also use some medicine such as diluted lidocaine to gargle to relieve the sore throat.

Note:

Sore throat is caused by radiation inflammation after radiotherapy, which causes pain and usually lasts for 1-2 years. The treatment is mainly symptomatic. You can take anti-inflammatory drugs such as cephalexin, as well as coral lozenges or drink throat tea frequently.
