Rice is made of plastic bags

Rice is one of the important staple foods in our lives. If there is a problem with the quality of rice, the consequences will be quite serious. There have been incidents of rice being made of plastic bags. This type of plastic rice is made of plastic grains and looks like rice. If it is mixed with normal rice and eaten, it will have a very big impact on our health.

In 2011, the mother of Mr. Jin, a Nanjing citizen, bought a 50-jin bag of rice at the Jin Runfa Supermarket on Ruijin Road. When the old man scooped out two boxes of rice and washed them, he found more than a dozen round white grains floating on the water. When he picked them up and took a closer look, he found that they were actually "rice" made of plastic. Afterwards, Mr. Jin picked out a dozen identical "plastic rice grains" from the rice bag. "I couldn't believe it at first. I really didn't expect they would mix this into rice. The supermarket then contacted the manufacturer to investigate.

On June 3, 2011, Mr. Jin's mother bought a 50-jin bag of "Xianren" brand Northeastern rice from the Jin Runfa Supermarket on Ruijin Road. The supermarket's promotional price at the time was 112 yuan. The old man also bought a bag of rice of another brand and ate this bag of rice first when he got home. It was not until the morning of June 21 that the old man remembered the "Xianren" brand rice, so he opened the rice bag, scooped out two boxes and put them in the pot to wash.

"I used to wash rice with a rice basket. This bag of 'Xianren' rice was very clear and shiny, so I thought there should be no other impurities in it. I didn't pick it out and put it directly into the pot to wash." The old man said that as soon as he put water in and washed it twice, a few white grains floated on the water. "I thought they were hollow rice eaten by insects, so I picked them out with reading glasses. Later, something was wrong. More than a dozen grains floated up." The old man picked up these dozen grains and looked at them carefully. They looked similar to rice, but they felt wrong and were a bit round in shape.

Morphological characteristics

Plastic rice looks very similar to rice, but it is rounder and whiter than normal rice grains. When you pinch it with your fingernails, the grains are elastic and leave a mark on the surface. The texture is very similar to plastic.
