What to do if the gums swell up

The weather is getting hotter now, and people's moods are getting restless, including in terms of emotions and diet. They start to eat things that are easy to cause inflammation. Therefore, it is very common to get angry in the summer. When getting angry, some people have lumps on their teeth, which begin to become swollen and painful, and inflammation will occur. They need to be well adjusted and maintained in normal times.

Causes of swollen and painful gums

① Dental caries: Initial dental caries usually have no symptoms. When the dental cavities become larger and deeper, the gums may become swollen and painful when eating. The pain will be aggravated by eating sweets or overcold or overheated foods.

② Pulpitis: It is mostly caused by pulp infection due to deep caries without filling, or caused by chemical drugs or temperature stimulation. The pain is spontaneous and paroxysmal, and may be accompanied by cold, hot stimulation pain and percussion pain.

③ Apical periodontitis: It is mostly caused by pulpitis spreading to the root canal orifice, causing inflammation of the tissues around the apex. It manifests as persistent gingival swelling and pain. The affected tooth has a sense of elongation, and is obviously painful to touch and tenderness, and cannot bite food.

④ Dental trauma: such as accidental falls, bumps, or sand biting while eating, which may cause tooth fracture or cracking, resulting in swollen and painful gums. You can take anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs first, and if conditions permit, you should go to the dental department for treatment.

⑤ Pericoronitis of wisdom teeth: Difficulty in eruption of wisdom teeth (impacted), coupled with poor oral hygiene, causes inflammation, swelling and pain in the tissues surrounding the crown.

How to quickly reduce swelling and pain in swollen gums

Dietary self-therapy

(1) Boil 100 grams of mung beans and 15 grams of licorice in water, remove the residue, eat the beans and drink the soup, twice a day, one dose per day.

(2) Boil 1 pig kidney, a small amount of salt, and 15 grams of Drynaria fortunei in water, eat the meat and drink the soup, 1 dose per day. It is used for those suffering from kidney deficiency, floating teeth, hidden toothache, which is prone to occur after fatigue.

(3) Take an appropriate amount of brown sugar and a handful of buckwheat roots, boil them in water, and take them in several doses. Used to treat toothache in children.

(4) Boil appropriate amount of pork and 30 grams of fresh water celery root in water and take it in several doses.

(5) 100 grams of fresh ginger and 500 grams of loofah. Wash the fresh loofah and cut it into sections. Wash the fresh ginger and slice it. Add two leaves to water and boil for 3 hours. Drink soup twice a day. This prescription is used to treat swollen and painful gums, dry mouth and nose, and bleeding nasal membranes (nosebleeds). It has the effects of clearing away heat and detoxifying, reducing swelling and relieving pain.

Self-therapy

(1) Boil 12g of Cynanchum chinense in water twice, mix and take in two doses, 1 dose per day.

(2) Take 30 grams of verbena, decocted in water, 1 dose per day.

(3) Boil 15g of Gallnut into a concentrated juice and gargle with it.

(4) Take 30g each of Heshi, Gypsum, and Rehmannia root, 12g of Ophiopogon japonicus, 20g of Cyathula capitata, and 9g of Anemarrhena asphodeloides, decocted in water, and taken 3 times a day, 1 dose per day.

(5) Mash 1 scallion and 15 grams of alum together and apply to the affected area. Change the mixture every 5 hours. This prescription is suitable for toothache caused by various reasons, including toothache due to real fire, toothache due to false fire, toothache due to caries, etc. Toothache is a common symptom caused by various dental diseases and diseases such as periodontitis.

(6) 2 cloves of old garlic and 5 grams of talcum powder. Mash the two and apply them to the Jingqu acupoint, cover it with a small clam shell, or cover it with other objects, tie it up, and after a while you will feel a slight burning sensation, peel off the peel and there will be a blister inside. Prick it with a needle, and let the yellow water flow out and the acupoint will be healed. The Jingqu point is located at the base of the thumbs of both hands, in the small depression below the pulse.

(7) Take 6 grams of ginger, 6 grams of garlic, 12 grams of tea leaves, and 12 grams of Clematis chinensis. Mash the ingredients and mix with sesame oil and egg white. Apply externally on the Hegu and Yongquan acupoints. This prescription is mainly used to treat toothache caused by false fire and kidney yin deficiency.

(8) Peel 2-3 cloves of garlic and simmer on the stove until cooked. Cut them open while they are still hot and apply hot water to the painful area. Replace the garlic when it cools down. Repeat this process several times. This prescription is used to treat toothache and has the effects of sterilization and detoxification.
