Canine cystitis is a disease called cystitis in dogs. Cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder mucosa and submucosal muscle layer. It is more common in cats than in dogs clinically. When it comes to this word, most people are still unfamiliar with it. They don’t know what kind of disease it is, how dogs get it, or what symptoms the dogs will have when they are sick. The reason I say this is to let everyone understand the symptoms and treatment of canine cystitis. Canine Cystitis [Cause] The causes of cystitis include: 1. Infection with pathogenic microorganisms, such as Staphylococcus, Escherichia coli, Proteus, etc. 2. The spread of inflammation of adjacent organs, such as nephritis, ureteritis, prostatitis, etc., especially vaginitis and endometritis in female dogs can easily spread and cause cystitis. 3. Mechanical injuries, such as bladder stones and catheter injuries, will stimulate the mucosa and cause inflammation. [Diagnostic points] Diagnosing whether a pet dog has cystitis mainly involves the following points: Typical symptoms are frequent and painful urination. Sick dogs urinate frequently, or only excrete a small amount of urine each time, or excrete urine continuously in drops (dribbling urine), and are in pain and restless. In severe cases, urinary retention may occur due to swelling of the bladder neck mucosa or spasmodic contraction of the bladder sphincter. When the urine sediment is examined under a microscope, a large number of red blood cells, white blood cells, pus cells, bladder epithelial cells and debris can be seen. The urine is cloudy and sometimes contains flakes of pus, mucus, and blood clots. The symptoms of chronic cystitis are similar to those of acute cystitis, but the course of the disease is longer and the severity is milder. The diagnosis can be confirmed based on the cause, medical history, clinical symptoms and urine sediment examination. [Prevention and control measures] Different situations should have different treatment measures. Here, Pet King introduces some prevention and treatment measures for cystitis: 1. Improve feeding management, provide adequate rest, feed with non-irritating, nutritious and easily digestible feed, and appropriately limit high-protein feed. 2. Disinfect and flush the bladder with astringent. First use a catheter to drain the urine in the bladder, flush it with lukewarm saline several times, and then flush it with medicine. For disinfection, 0.02% furosemide solution, 0.05% potassium permanganate solution, and 0.1% revonol solution can be used. For astringency, you can use 0.5% tannic acid solution, 1-3% boric acid solution, 1-2% alum solution, etc. In case of severe cystitis, after flushing, 800,000 to 1.2 million units of penicillin (dissolved in 50 to 100 ml of distilled water) are instilled into the bladder, and antibiotics are administered systemically at the same time. 3. Appropriate use of urinary tract disinfectants, such as taking furadine, 4.4 mg/kg body weight/time, twice a day. 4. Pet King reminds you to pay attention to prevent microbial invasion and infection. When performing catheterization, pay attention to disinfection and sterility. Other urinary organ diseases should be treated promptly to prevent their spread. Dogs are our loyal friends. Almost 80% of people like dogs and keep them at home. Since we all love dogs so much, we must treat them with 100% sincerity. While actively learning about feeding dogs, we must also pay attention to the knowledge of diseases that dogs are prone to. Cystitis is a common disease in dogs. We must remember the symptoms of canine cystitis in case of emergency. |
