Why is there always sticky phlegm in the throat?

In life, many people like to smoke, drink and eat a lot of irritating foods. When the seasons change or the temperature fluctuates greatly, they do not pay attention to keeping the body warm in time. It often seems that there is always sticky phlegm stuck in the throat, and they can't cough it out, so they will often have dry coughs or dry retching. When this phenomenon occurs, it means pharyngitis.

Causes of pharyngitis

1. Virus infection:

Almost half of cases of acute pharyngitis are caused by viral infection, most commonly coxsackievirus, adenovirus, and parainfluenza virus, followed by rhinovirus and influenza virus.

2. Bacterial infection:

Chronic rhinitis caused by bacterial infection is more serious and prone to systemic complications.

3. Pathogenic microorganisms:

Some viruses and bacteria are the main causes of acute pharyngitis. These bacteria can come directly from the air and diet, or indirectly from the blood circulation and lymphatic circulation.

4. Climate and seasonal factors:

Cold weather may lead to a decline in the functions of some organs, resulting in a decrease in local resistance, while a dry climate can affect the secretion of pharyngeal mucus and ciliary motility, reducing the cleaning and humidifying effects of the air, directly irritating and damaging the pharyngeal mucosa, and leading to the invasion of microorganisms.

5. Adjacent organ diseases:

Diseases of some organs can also cause pharyngitis. Inflammatory secretions and some inflammatory substances repeatedly stimulate the pharynx, or nasal diseases block breathing and force you to breathe through your mouth, etc., all of which can lead to pharyngitis.

Symptoms of pharyngitis

Symptom 1

The patient will feel a foreign body sensation in the throat, and even if he coughs or swallows hard, the foreign body sensation cannot go away. Therefore, the voices of patients with chronic pharyngitis always make people feel tired and hoarse, and some patients often experience acid reflux and other phenomena.

Symptom 2

Even when speaking normally, patients with chronic pharyngitis may experience temporary loss of voice, or their voices may be very low and difficult for others to hear, but coughing and laughing are normal. In this case, we need to distinguish it from hysterical hoarseness. If the vocal cords are adducted normally, it is also chronic pharyngitis.

Symptom three

Patients with chronic pharyngitis often feel sore throat, especially when swallowing, the pain will be more obvious. Patients usually experience swelling and pain after a cold and fever. If you feel that your throat is swollen and painful for a long time, you should get checked immediately.
