How to remove scale from a teapot

How to remove scale from a teapot

Many people think that the scale in the teapot does not pose any health hazard to the human body. At most, it only has a certain impact on the appearance, which cannot be seen from the outside of the pot anyway. In fact, this idea is wrong. The main components of scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate, which are quite harmful to the human body. Scale not only causes kidney stones, but also causes heavy metal poisoning. Therefore, the scale in the teapot must be cleaned regularly.

1. How is scale produced?

It mainly has to do with water quality. If the water is hard, the oxygen content in the water is insufficient and the water molecules are unstable, the solubility of calcium and magnesium ions in the water will decrease. The originally dissolved calcium bicarbonate and magnesium bicarbonate will decompose in the boiling water, releasing carbon dioxide, and become insoluble calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate which also precipitate. As the precipitation increases, scale is formed.

2. What happens if you drink water with scale?

Scale is very harmful to the human body. It is not only unhygienic, but also seriously affects human health. There are a large number of heavy metals in scale, which not only cause various stone diseases, but also cause diseases of the digestive, nervous, urinary, hematopoietic, circulatory and other systems and cause aging. Long-term intake can cause heavy metal poisoning in the human body, and many heavy metals can cause cancer in human organs.

2. Several small ways to remove scale

1. Descaling the kettle by boiling sweet potatoes

Put more than half of the sweet potatoes in a new kettle, fill it with water, and cook the sweet potatoes. Next time you boil water, there will be no scale accumulation. But be careful not to scrub the inner wall of the kettle after boiling sweet potatoes, otherwise the descaling effect will be lost. For old kettles that are full of scale, after boiling them once or twice using the above method, not only will the original scale gradually fall off, but it will also prevent scale from accumulating again.

2. Baking soda to remove scale

Generally, the heating plate of electric kettles is made of aluminum. When boiling water in the electric kettle, scale is easily formed. Generally, we can put 1 teaspoon of baking soda and boil it for a few minutes to remove the scale. Alternatively, you can pour in about 500 grams of 1% baking soda water, shake it gently, and the scale can be removed.

3. Boil eggs to remove scale

Generally, electric kettles will accumulate hard and difficult-to-remove scale after being used for a long time. If you use it to boil eggs twice, you will get the desired effect. Crush two egg shells slightly, put them in a bottle, then fill half a pot of water, stir with a blender or spoon, then boil it, let it sit for about half an hour, pour out the egg shells, and rinse it twice with clean water.

1. Thermal expansion and contraction to remove scale

Place the empty kettle on the stove to dry out the moisture in the scale. When cracks appear on the bottom of the kettle or a "bang" sound appears on the bottom of the kettle, remove the kettle and quickly pour in cold water. Or wrap the handle and spout with a rag, hold it with both hands, and quickly place the dried kettle in cold water (do not let water flow into the kettle). Repeat 2 to 3 times and the scale on the bottom of the pot will fall off due to thermal expansion and contraction.
