How to check liver problems

How to check liver problems

The liver is a particularly important organ in the human body. For example, the stomach is used to store food, and the heart controls various activities of our body. The liver often has problems. Sometimes these diseases can be seen from the epidermis, but some cannot. However, these can all be felt. There are some tips for checking liver problems. So how to check liver problems?

Liver function tests are performed by using various biochemical test methods to detect various indicators related to liver function metabolism in order to reflect the basic condition of liver function. Because the liver has various functions, there are many ways to test liver function.

Liver function tests are an auxiliary means of diagnosing hepatobiliary diseases. If a correct diagnosis of the disease is to be made, a comprehensive analysis must be conducted in combination with the patient's medical history, physical examination, and imaging examinations. It should also be pointed out that there are many items in liver function tests, but not every test item needs to be done. Usually the doctor will select a group or several of them based on the patient's medical history and symptoms.

Because the liver has various functions, there are many ways to test liver function. Protein tests related to liver function include serum total protein, albumin-to-globulin ratio, serum turbidity and flocculence test, and alpha-fetoprotein test; serum enzymes related to liver disease include alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, and lactate dehydrogenase; tests related to biotransformation and excretion include sodium sulfonylphthalide retention test; tests related to bile pigment metabolism include bilirubin quantification and urine tricholine test. These tests are done through blood tests.

Liver function tests usually include: liver protein metabolism function, bilirubin and bile acid metabolism function, enzyme indicators, lipid metabolism function, liver excretion and detoxification function.

Liver function reflects the physiological function of the liver. Liver function tests are aimed at detecting whether the liver has disease, the degree of liver damage, as well as finding out the cause of liver disease, judging the prognosis and identifying the cause of jaundice. Several representative indicators are often selected to understand liver function, such as protein metabolism function test, bilirubin metabolism function test, liver dye excretion test and various serum enzyme tests. Including bilirubin, albumin, globulin, transaminase, biliary enzyme, serum ammonia, thromboplastin time, etc.

Liver function testing is extremely sensitive and important, especially for the diagnosis of liver diseases such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, etc. When these diseases occur, the metabolic function, immune function, and synthetic function of the liver are first affected, making these extremely sensitive indicators reflected in liver function tests. At the same time, liver function tests also have certain limitations. Liver function tests can only be used as an auxiliary means to diagnose hepatobiliary diseases. When evaluating the results of liver function tests, liver function must be considered comprehensively in combination with clinical symptoms to avoid one-sidedness and subjectivity.

Liver function tests can help patients detect and diagnose certain diseases at an early stage, such as acute or chronic hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, drug-induced hepatitis, fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, and hepatobiliary system diseases.
