Is it okay to sleep with your head facing east?

Although people don't pay special attention to the direction when sleeping or placing their beds, most Chinese beds are still placed in the east-west direction. Because many people believe that the east-west direction is the direction of the earth's rotation, sleeping with the head facing east-west can ensure the body's emotional stability and improve the quality of sleep. However, some people believe that sleeping in an east-west direction will be affected by the magnetic field and disturb people's sleep.

1. Is it good to sleep with your head facing east?

Most beds in China are placed indoors in an east-west direction, which means that people sleep either with their heads to the east and their feet to the west, or with their heads to the west and their feet to the east, which is perpendicular to the direction of the earth's magnetic field. People believe that the earth's magnetic field will affect the body's bioelectric current. In order to reach a new state of balance, the human body must consume a large amount of heat energy to improve its metabolic capacity, which disturbs sleep. Therefore, it is not good to sleep with your head facing east and your feet facing west.

But some people say that the east-west orientation is better because the earth often produces momentary magnetic field disturbances, which can significantly change the normal behavior of human brain currents. If you sleep with your head facing north, the impact on your brain will be more serious, and may even affect the biochemical flow of substances inside the human body. Scholars believe that slight pulsations in the Earth's magnetic field can inhibit electrical activity in the brain, causing dizziness and emotional instability. When people sleep with their heads facing east and their feet facing west, they will feel calm. So, it's good to sleep with your head facing east and your feet facing west.

2. Which direction should you face when sleeping?

1. Head west

Why do we feel tired? This is largely due to lack of blood supply to the head causing hypoxia. Why is it easier to recover physical strength by lying down than by sitting or standing? On the surface, it seems that the torso and limbs are relaxed, but in fact, what is more important is that lying flat makes it easier for blood to circulate to the brain. Scientists have done tests and found that standing upside down for a short period of time can help people recover their energy faster than lying down, although the body is still exerting effort during the process. Therefore, some people believe that one should sleep with one's head facing west. Because we know that the earth rotates from west to east, turning your head to the west is equivalent to borrowing the force of the earth's rotation, making it easier for blood to gather in the head.

2. Head towards the inner wall

Generally speaking, house walls can be divided into exterior walls and interior walls. The exterior wall (adjacent to the outdoors) often has high humidity and large temperature difference; the interior wall (dividing indoor rooms) has relatively low humidity and small temperature difference. Therefore, it is recommended to sleep with the head of the bed against the interior wall and not against the corner to avoid getting sick. For young people, they may not feel any discomfort when sleeping with their head against the outer wall, but when they are old, they may develop chronic diseases such as cervical spondylosis and rheumatism.

3. Which direction should you not sleep with your head facing?

1. Friends who know something about Feng Shui know that there is a taboo in Feng Shui: you usually cannot sleep with your head facing west. West is considered a lazy direction. If you have no choice but to sleep facing west, then do not use gray or charcoal-colored sheets unless your horoscope favors this.

2. Sleeping with your head facing south can easily make people excited and cause insomnia. Therefore, from the perspective of Feng Shui, you can use yellow sheets or bedding for decoration, because from the perspective of Feng Shui health, yellow can calm the mind and relieve the symptoms of loss of eyesight, but it is best not to use light colors or lilac colors, because these two colors have strong light and color stimulation, which is not conducive to people's sleep.

3. The northeast direction is the Gen Gua, which is the direction of quarrels and disputes. Therefore, if you place your bed here, you are prone to nightmares. Feng Shui believes that sleeping with your head facing this direction can easily make you nervous and lead to nightmares. If your bedroom conditions are limited and you have to sleep facing northeast, you can alleviate these adverse effects by using dark, light pink or light yellow bedding.
